My friend had a skunk and had its glands removed, but it still smelled very musky. He always had that skunky smell even though she used a deoderizing shampoo. She had hers outside in a very large dog run but if you got within 10 feet of him you could still tell there was a skunk around. What's more, he was rather friendly as a baby but as he grew he became increasingly wild. She spent time with him every single day without fail, but he grew more and more wild. Then she couldn't release him back into nature because she had had his defense mechanism (glands) removed yet couldn't be with him either. She finally gave him to a wildlife sanctuary in the area. You can take the critter out of the wild but you can't take the wild out of the critter.

I have heard of people removing the stink glands and having skunk for a pet. You might want to go to a local vet and ask them if they do it. Skunks are pretty cute. I hope you enjoy yours.

Yes you can but they have to be a rescued skunk or you buy them from a breeder. Skunks make great pets and believe it or not they come in lavendar. If you hear of a rescued baby take it to a vet they will do it, but only to an orphaned skunk. It will also need shots and dewormed etc. But they are really smart, and eat lots of veggies and nuts. Really a cool pet. Look them up on the net there are skunk breeders one really good one on the northern states. Good luck

skunks are considered 'wild life'.
Contact your state's game and fish department to see if having a skunk for a pet is allowed there.
Yes, stink glands can be removed surgically. If the state allows skunk for a pet, then call veterinarians to see if one is willing to do the operation.

I'm from Louisiana and about twenty years ago it was actually quite common for people to keep skunks as pets. People had the glands removed and they made great adorable pets. But it's illegal to keep them here. Check with you Fish & Wildlife Service. Good Luck. 2D

I have always wanted a skunk for a pet. But they are not legal in most states. They require LOTS of attention and care, more so than a cat or a dog. The following links should provide you with helpful information.
