Well a WPA key is a key to access a secured WiFi router/access point. The key is set on the router/access point and then entered on your computer when you wish to connect. You can only get the key from the router/access point it is not on your computer thus the security it offers.

To get the key you will have to have access to the router/access point or have the owner of the router/acces point give you the key. If it is your router you can connect using a cable to get / set the key.

It is a form of security used on a wireless router, along with WEP keys. the key has to match between the router and your computer, thus insuring no intrusion by outsiders. You either make the key, a string of numbers, or let the router generate it.
