ive answered this question on yahoo several times and gotten best answer. trust me when i say this as a true warriors fan, this was a great trade for both teams. i can explain in detail but it would take a long time so ill cut it short.
1) jrich makes 12 mill this year, about 51 mill in 4 years
2) who would you rather have, jrich? or monta AND biedrins? i ask this because, monta and andris are up for extensions, their rookie contracts are about to expire and will be looking for top dollars. losing jrich enables us to re-sign both of them
3) we get the bobcats 10 million dollar trade exception. we can use that to pay any free agent this year. basically its a free 10 million dollars.
4) we get brandan wright, he was the 3rd or 4th best player in this draft and has TONS of potential. he has already been compared to the next chris bosh. as you know, our team sucks on rebounding, wright can help us on that, he is ahtletic as hell and is 6'10" with a 7'4" wingspan.
5) jrich was the clear cut fan favorite but wasnt without his flaws. bad ball handler, not a great passer, horrible FT shooter, takes too many perimeter shots when he should be driving it....plus he had knee and hand surgery, who knows if he will ever the be same again. the surgery might come back to haunt him in the future.
6) this opens up playing time for guys like barnes, pietrus, azubuike, belinelli. as you know, azubuike is pretty damn good.
7) we still got belinelli and lasme. both will help the team a lot.

as for barnes, i think he might leave because other teams can offer him more money. we cant blame matt for doing whats best for him and his family because matt never had a guaranteed contract in his life. he has always been a castaway. i dont epect him back.
this team will be better than last years.

Richardson was mad over-rated, he's owed some $50 mil, cannot take anyone off the dribble, and the Warriors have nine wing players. It was a brilliant move.

Everyone was talking ish about Jordan for getting J-Rich, not the other way around.

Sure, J-Rich was one of the main guys who helped Golden State end their playoff drought, but he hurt this team by being nothing more than a spot-up shooter and a nice dunker on breakaways. He's a great athlete, but was never one of Nelly's favorites. He had to go.

As for Barnes, this move may have enabled them to keep him. I don't think that's why they did it - they needed to consolidate and bring in a rebounder - but if they miss out on K.G. or Jermaine O'Neal, Barnes could be back. Don't go crazy, but by the looks of things, Matty won't be back next year either.

Jason Richardson,

We all (Hardcore Warrior Fans) will miss you. You've shown the Bay Area nothing but love, loyalty, and dedication for the past 6 years you've been here, contributing to a losing cause until this past season. You even stepped aside and gave up the reigns to Baron Davis (when we traded for him) for the betterment of the team. You were a soldier who worked hard and never complained no matter how hard the tides got. You remind me a lot of Mitch Richmond whom, we also gave up (for Billy Owens) in hopes of grabbing a big men so that we could contend for a title. The trading factor just happens to be the inhumane nature of the business in the NBA and sometimes keeping a favorite player vs. building a team capable of contending for a championship tends to be a conflict of interests. I want to be the first to extend my hand out and wish you well. I really enjoyed what you've done for the Warriors (winning slam dunk contests, keeping us competitive) and all the highlights reels (dunks and posterizing other players) you've provided us with for all those years. I hope destiny will eventually, land you a championship in Charlotte (they've got a great team over there too) and just maybe, learning from Michael Jordan might help you improve in certain aspects of your game. Take care J-Rich. You will always be a Golden State Warrior, at least in my heart.

It is a good trade for both sides. Charlotte gets a player that has been around the league. Also, they get a good scorer in their backcourt to pair up with Felton.

Golden State gets a good player and they clear some cap space. They get a player with size and length that can develope into a real star. They also clear some space for Ellis to play some more time. This is also a good trade for Golden State as there trying to trade for Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolces are looking for young talent and Wright definatly fits that catogory.

Some retarded number 8 pick?? You have got to be kidding me right? You have to be retarded to make a statement like that. I am a die hard lifetime Tarheels fan and I got to say you are lucky to be getting Brandan Wright. I wish he would have stayed another year. The only reason most people might not have heard of him is because Oden and Durant were getting all the attention last year. He scored double digit points in his first 18 games and is only the 2nd Tarheel to do that in the last 20 years. He was the ACC Freshman of the Year, a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team and was ACC Tournament MVP.

Trust me in 5 years you are going to be glad you have him!

By the way he's name is spelled Brandan not Brandon!!! I've seen it so often.

Well, J-Rich is a good player in general. But Charlotte made a terrible choice. They traded a fresh, young player who is probably gonna be better than J-Rich to get a player who's only good at dunks. So the team who made the best choice was probably Golden State.
GO WARRIORS! WE BELIEVE!

As a big warrior fan I understand this. Richardson is not a great player just a great dunker. With Davis, Jackson and Barnes really scoring for us he kind of fell out of what we were trying to do. Brandon Wright is not a retarded pick, he will be a great player who fits in to what we are doing

before calling someone a retard, look at yourself. You aint so different from them.
As for the trade, the "retarded" pick happens to be a quick versatile player who fits right into Nelson's plans. Jason Richardson is only a scorer, the kind that Michael Jordan prefers.

I never like the trades where established stars go for question marks and this wasn't a deep draft....just look at the tall question mark the Bucks took to show that. If they needed height so bad, why couldn't the Cavs have traded them Z for the Rich?

I'm a big Warriors fan and huge J-Rich fan, but we needed a big man. JRICH is a great shooter and can drive, but we have guys with those fundamentals. Big men are important and Brandan Wright is a great PF. We are going to do better. And the girls I know LOVE MATT BARNES AND MONTA ELLIS. They would go crazy if they got traded lol.
