It is too easy to get in this country illegally.
If they buildt a fence wouldn't the drug traffic decrease too?

Do you think BOTH sides don't want to risk offending Hispanics because of their VOTES?
Since when did votes become more important than the LIVES of Americans?

punish companies severely for hiring illegals and the problem will diminish to the point where the border agents can actually be capable of protecting us from any real bad guys...why is it that people can hire them without being fined ten thousand dollars for each offense?

If a wall would actually work then we would build one .
It will not stop anyone who wants to get here .
They will build a secret tunnel and all the people who want to use it will pay a fee .
Great way to help others profit of the misery of others .
The reason people come to this country is the steady low paying work .
So as long as rich Americans profit from the labor of the poor Mexican they will continue to flock here legal or otherwise .
Remember our prisons have running water, showers, toilets, beds of the ground free from insects and biting bugs and 3 meals a day which is so much more then they have in their own country so that a prison sentence is like going to a resort .
You obviously have no clue about the world and how it lives .

The 1.5-mile barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border was designed to keep cars from illegally crossing into the United States. There's just one problem: It was accidentally built on Mexican soil. Now embarrassed border officials say the mistake could cost the federal government more than $3 million to fix.
The Mexican government was notified and did what any landowner would do: They sent a note politely insisting that Mexico get its land back.
"Our country will continue insisting for the removal (of the fence) to be done as quickly as possible," the Foreign Relations Department said in a diplomatic missive to Washington.
When the barrier was built in 2000, the project was believed to cost about $500,000 a mile. Estimates to uproot and replace it range from $2.5 million to $3.5 million.

Ahhh...whats 3 MILLION to THIS

No. Any wall-like structures gonna do crap. If you want anythign to change, get more people. Unless you build a 20 foot tall titanium wall about 1 foot think, then something might change...but I'm not sure the US is gonna be too happy about using a billion dollars on a wall. You need more people watching...but its not gonna do a huge thing to the drug traffic. They'll find another way.

Of course our government should be doing more to stop the flow of illegals. It's their obligation. It seems to me that sneaking into our country is taking the easy way out. If someone doesn't like the way things are in their own country then they should be trying to do something about it. It's called a revolution and it happened here a couple hundred years ago and it still happens today all around the world.

The Berlin Wall was built and used as a symbol to keep the East Berliners from seeing the West. The difference is this: The Soviets did not allow under any circumstances for East Berliners to immigrate west. The US allows people to immigrate here, but you can't break the law doing it! There's a big difference.

if you build a 10 foot high fence, someone will get an 11 foot high latter.
walls and fences don't work. they all get torn down in the end. they are also not a good symbol to have, especially in america
most illegals have nothing to do with drugs. drug flow won't be affected too much from a wall/fence.

A fence will not solve the problem. It is a boondongle.
Recently there have been many articles about the economic situation affecting the number of people crossing the border.
If there is no work they will not come.
Fences are too easy to overcome, at least the kind of fence they are discussing. I would argue that a high tech barrier could be built but would cost billions of dollars.
The answer is to punish employers who hire illegals and remove incentives to come. But that will never happen.
Is our government failing to keep us safe? Why are the laws on the books not being enforced? Who is in charge of enforcing the laws. Gonzales?

no. we need more security and enforcement, but a wall isn't the answer. not all illegals come from the south either. about half the illegals entered legally and a wall wouldn't stop that. Why can't real penalties be levied against employers? as for the drugs, another "war" declared that was never meant to be won,it only increased the government. you can now buy street drugs easier than buying OTC sinus pills. the law that made that happen increased Mexican production and profits

They get here by other means: by air, by sea, and like you stated underground. I am more afraid of air attacks, and bombs then I am about a fence at the border. As long as we have been America people have been finding ways to get here, a fence is not going to stop it from continuing.
