What's the point of giving the benefit of the doubt if you're always right about other people. People tend to live right up to the labels you never even bothered to confront them with. Any religious takers or takers in general?

well if i just met you - and i told you the sky is green and you couldnt see the sky at that moment - would you believe me ? probably not. SHOULD you believe me (assuming i was being serious) - yes ! why ? because you just met me - you have no reason to think i would lie to you. I'm not trying to take your money - or your girlfriend - or your car. I'm not threat. Giving someone the benefit of the doubt is FAIR and when you don't give someone the benefit of your doubt - youre not being fair. IF you dont have enough information to judge for yourself then you can't come to a conclusion. And no if people are living up to the labels you have set on them - you havent been out much because i can tell you - there are TONS of people out there who are not anything like you would imagine by looking at them - or talking to them on the phone - or even chatting over the internet. i am on of those people. i can tell you only because i have been judged long and hard based on how i look and i am sick to death of it. If you dont know me - you can't have a problem with me.

Because the time you don't is the time that someone will come along and screw up the mean by doing the right thing.

How many times has some knucklehead dinged your car in a parking lot, yet it happens where someone leaves a note, and contact info to get it fixed.

Giving the benefit of the doubt is my action, so I refuse to let the stupid, lazy, ignorant of the world take it away from me.

I think there's a difference between telling Them who you know they are, and acknowledging it to yourself. Then you decide what exactly you can put up with. ("Can you sail with a pirate?")

Also, people really like knowing what your parameters are.. Say, "If for some reason you're not able to... by.... I'll just... and we'll still be friends." Make it clear that "I'll love you no matter what, and I'll come visit you in jail or in the hospital or... (wherever your inevitable stupid behavior takes you)"

If somone automatically put a label on you would you like it? Given that, no matter waht you do, you will NEVER exceed that label in their eyes because what you do differently is an "exception".

Labels are never accurate and never fair. Why be fair? Because everyone deserves a chance to show who they are. You'd like one, wouldn't you?

that is actually very simple to answer-

because there is always the exception.

i don't know how many times people have thought the wrong thing about me because they just made too many assumptions and stereotypes!!
