I am wondering this one, because Cancer is supposedly the least clear-cut zodiac sign....

The Moon goes threw all 12 signs in 28 days... The Sun takes 30 days for 1 sign.

I think that Cancers have a natural knack at consultation, and the ability to relate towards the rest, because of the ruler being the Moon… So there is always 12 flavors of Cancers, everytime the Sun enters the sign. No other zodiac sign, has that much color to choose from!!

As astrology is based off of symbolism...

Now what is thinking in symbolic language I may ask.... to Jung, symbolic thinking stressed that symbols are products of our unconscious mind, at a level that is never fully conscious. A symbol stands for something else, but it is also an expression of archetypal knowledge. Symbols are thus created to invoke unconscious material. Symbols express something that cannot be better expressed in any other way because it’s meaning invokes unconscious material.

Now what Wikipedia thinks… “Symbols are objects, characters, or other concrete representations of ideas, concepts, or other abstractions. For example, in the United States, a red octagon is a symbol for the traffic sign meaning "STOP". In more psychological and philosophical terms, every perception is symbolic, and humans often react to symbolism on a subconscious level. All language is made up of symbols. The word "cat", whether spoken or written, is not a cat, but is a symbol for a cat

The essence of a cultural object is that it is a token in the process of symbolization. White therefore defined the symbolate as an object created by the act of symbolization, just as an isolate is created by the act of isolation. The scepter stands for royal power, but before this act of symbolization it did not exist. It was created by its use as a symbol. We are conscious of the symbol, but not of the symbolate....

Cancer is the root....

I think a lot of people tend to forget Cancers opposite sign is Capricorn, as Cancer sees work as work... it is to make a living, not be part of it.

That's a very intersting question Allen.

We all wonder how this fits together. Many people think of Uranus and Aquarius, others acknowledge the learning skills of Mercury and Gemini. Still others the reasoning of Virgo and some the dectective work of Scorpio, or the high flying arrows of Sag. I have done a little research into this and have found astrologers come in every sign, there is some clumping of course but the signs seem to color the kind and style of astrology they practice. In essense the universe is tailoring the astrologer's personality to those they will read for. But curiously you said Cancer. And I have read, confirm and agree to a certain extent that the Moon, Cancer, and fourth House placements do link astrologers.

For a reason that is not immediately obvious but still beautiful and compliments our reflective sympathetic natures. Astrologers read birth charts. We look at the entrance time and place where the soul chose to be born.

This is very Cancerian. And has to do with our deepest origins.

I resent that! :(

I thought I was a pretty good astrologer and I have absolutely nothing in Cancer.

As for the moon, Cancer's ruler and the source of our emotional nature - you forgot two things;

1. Not only can the moon be in 12 different signs while the sun is in one sign - it can also be in 12 different houses while the moon is in just 1 sign. So technically, there are 144 flavours of each sun sign. Not to mention mercury, venus, mars and the houses they can be in. So that's over 144 flavours for each sign. And that's leaving close aspects with outer planets out of the equasion.

And that would be just one sun sign.

2. Not only Cancer has all those different flavours - every sign has them. So in my opinion, whichever sign you are, you can be just as good an astrologer as any other sign. Mostly because different astrologers have different ways to approach astrology. Like myself, I approach it with a very technical and analytical nature, from a psychological point of view. Other astrologers will approach it very abstractly from a new ager's point of view and so on.

I would have to say if the dynamism of a certain object would make a good astrologer, I would put the strain on the rising first - since the rising is the most dynamic focal point of a chart. It goes through all 12 signs in one day. Even 4 minutes less than one day.

As for Cancers, they are natural born empaths, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they all understand astrology.

I do not know. What is clear is unregulated Cancer, our president, Cheney, and rums field, are the most destructive sign going. On the other hand if cancer can not demand absolute control, its failing, then cancer can nurture and as sits in very humane ways. Cancer effects often tend to roll over a large area like a tidal wave. This wave may be constructive but more often is sadly not.

Although a native with Cancer may be able to relate emotionally to his clients, the danger is really in over-relating.

Cancers have a lot of emotional baggage that could get in the way of readings.

They might unconsciously project earlier emotional experience onto the lives of their clients.

Uranus tends to be regarded as the astrology planet. It's placement in the chart usually signifies aptitude in astrology, along with science in general.

As for the counseling aspect, 7th House Suns, or placements in Libra would be favorable.

From my observation, Cancers make the best self-employed women in the USA. They are self-created in an area which allows them to serve people and get paid very well. Male Cancers, with the revolution of cultural norms in the 1960's, are now allowed to express their nurturing side and get paid for it, too.

As far as astrological or any sort of consultation, it may be a very difficult sign for them to be in this area of employment. Just as ponds, rivers and oceans get polluted by what is placed in them - either by choice or accident - the water sign is subject to the same problem.

One of Water's areas of influence is Empathy. It is a hard talent to have - since you really must know yourself very well and know when what you are feeling is not your own.

One very prominent astrologer I am aware of is a Capricorn with a Cancer rising and Leo Moon. He uses the Leo Moon to help buffer his sensitive/feminine water ascendant... to the detriment and emotional injury of his sensitive clients.

Variety is the spice of life.

It depends what you come to astrology for and what you are taking with you.In the end, you are the master of what you anaylze and process to believe..

Just cause someone states something doesnt mean you can't look at it from all angles and prepare it best in ways it can suite you etc.

so, 12 flavors eh...sounds like even more spice for the pot.

From my point of view the cancers make better cooks and farmers than astrologers. But since we know that astrological knowledge and the constellation names come in part from farmers...maybe you are into something.

Home made astrologers perhaps. :)

I'd say, the cancers *are* clean cut, and utterly simple individuals, who like to defend their ideas and to bulldoze their path through life. Not the best mediators.

And 12 flavors, yes but, which sign does not have it and more?

Not necessary. Astrology needs a logical approach. It needs intution and ability to draw reference. I would say that those with Aries, Pisces, Aquaris or Virgo may make good astrologers. They are not prone to mood swings like Cancer.
