Yes. You might not be the center of attention but an egocentric person feels that everything involves them or is about them. They are always thinking about how something can benefit them. So it is possible for the egocentric person to feel that it is in their best interest NOT to be the center of attention.

Yes. You don't have to be an extroverted egocentric, you can be a withdrawn introverted egocentric. Or you could be an averaga egocentric. Everybody has some ego centric habits - it is needed for survival. People who are totally other-oriented and do not comply with social norms of social distance are said to have no social boundaries.
Egocentrism is not an endearing social characteristic in most people. People like to think other people care about them and it makes them feel good to have people do things that are thoughtful. That way they don't feel so alone and feel safer in their environment. Egocentrists may be oblivious to such feelings at most times, may not be aware of their own safety, and do not care about others and their feelings about themselves and safety. Everything is considered in terms of how it affects them, sometimes immediately and sometimes long-term. They are self-absorbed. They may not care if they are the center of attention. It depends on how being the center affects them. It's a matter of perspective - in their perspective they are the center because there is no one else.
