The question sure caught my interest! Researching the answer - Matt Elliott, center, was the final pick of the 1992 draft, and went on to play for several other NFL teams.
I really didn't know this: there is now a trophy given to the final pick of the draft, appropriately enough called the Lowsman Trophy.

Do you mean exactly the #255 pick or a Mr. Irrelevant (last draft pick)?
Because before there were 12th rounds and almost 500 picks. Doug Flutie was for example the #285 pick, other ones came undrafted and they are Hall of Famers.
If you ask about the last draft pick, Jim Finn was it in 1999 (#253) and he's been a good blocking FB for the Giants.
Bill Kenney was the last pick in 1978 and he was an above avg QB, I think he made it to 1 or 2 Pro Bowls.

I know this doesn't really answer the question but i think hall of famer Bart Starr was drafted in the 16th or 17th round.
