No roommate, parent, bf, gf. Just by yourself, even if only for six months. Why or why not?

It is a good idea but no, it is not important.
People are different from each other. You may feel the need, and so would 5% or 10% maybe of the entire population. However, over 40% might just think that you just asked a weird question, and the rest of the people dont care one way or another. They have the option or have done so in some point in their lives and it was certainly no biggie.
Hohum, whats so great about it. Been there, done that. Its great to have variety.

I would recommend it. But I remember some informal internet poll that asked people which they'd prefer: Living completely alone for the rest of their lives, or living with someone they hate for the rest of their lives (as in only the two of you existing on the planet). A vast majority of people answered they'd rather live with someone they hate.

I don't get it.

I think most people are immature, living alone forces you to grow up in many ways. It also allows you to discover yourself in ways you can't with other people directly around you. It allows time for self analysis as well.

Someone once stated that Solitary confinement is the most tortuous form of punishment known to mankind. *shrug*

Rarely are people ever alone, cell phones are so common now days that your best friend is a call away... I think humans are afraid of lonliness, so like all fears it will exist until you give it a try.

I think it is, then you can experience independence and see if it works for you. It also depends on the person, too.

I was Ms. Independent last year, all intent on doing everything solo, and subleased an apartment by myself and it was pretty lonely. And pricey. I like living with people, for the most part...

As to raven7night's stat about living by yourself or with an evil roommate: I'd live by myself, hands down. I already live with two nightmares, and living solo was way better!

Yes, its important in life to live alone once and awhile. Personally I hate it because im I feel so alone all the time, even with my dog I feel its hard to sleep without my family. I lived alone for 1 year and it was alright, I was able to do things I was not able to do living with my family. I thought and looked differently. But still, I love being with my family, plus im saving a lot of money, and my family loves having me around so, its ok.

Yes, everyone should live alone at some time in their lives. You need to know you can take care of yourself before you can take care of another person. It makes you feel powerful and independent.

Yes and no. While it's definitely important for a person to learn to be independant I know plenty of people who would burn their house down if left alone.... Some people just aren't meant to be alone. Some can't handle the responsibility of caring for themseves entirely.

YES!!! and for more than six months. It truly helps define who you are as a person and not who someone else expects you to be. You have to learn to enjoy your OWN company in order for anyone else to truly enjoy you as a person. When I first moved out on my own I had a white velvet couch that I'd found at Goodwill for $10 (!!!) and a black and white t.v. and I'd get home and walk my puppy and just enjoy having my own place.
To this day, it's still one of my fave memories. Just do it. If nothing else, to at least say you did it.

as a person who has lived alone for most of the last 12 years id have to say its good because it lets you know you can make it on your own an how much easier it is to do so. but on the other hand bad to go to long as you will get to trust people less an less.

I think it is useful, but also cannot stand it. I seem to have to have someone around.

But I have lived alone a lot and it is good. You have to cook and clean and all that for yourself, but also, you are not worrying about someone elses messes or wants or needs. Everything is about you and you can really see what you are like.

It is difficult to live alone and it is advised not to do so. Even by living alone one should be in close touch of some well wisher. Because one may become ill, he may need some help.
