If you think about it being picked best means the person who asked apreciated it. However being voted best means more people read it and without knowing you voted for you.

i was just thinking about this the other day. i prefer being picked by the questioner. if they are going to take the time to ask the question, then these people should take the time to vote for someone. sometimes i put quite a bit of effort into my answers.

Picked as best answer as it does mean that you didn't waste ur time and that it was actually appreciated. However if it's a poll, then a lot of the same answers will come up and you might have no idea which to choose. Than, it's OK. U would prefer if I was chosen best by the asker cos then I wont have to see how many votes I won by. Pick me for best answer!!!! LOL.

I prefer being picked as best by the asker. It means more because THEY are the ones asking the question and looking for the answer. When you get picked "best answer", it means the asker found the most accurate answer.

I would rather the asker pick. I took the time to answer, the person should be able to pick an answer. There are times that it is hard for me to pick an answer, but I still do it.
I don't think enough people vote to always make best answer a good choice.

Both have there own importance. The asker's need is individual, and the forum definitely aims to serve each individual user.

Being, voted for best answer, is like earning the approval of the audience, in general, and this gives kind of a social satisfaction, that the public is with you! Maybe, the asker didn't get the kind of answer he/she was looking for...

I'd rather be picked by the asker... because the asker spent 5 points asking the question, and the answerers should want to satisfy him/her... if the asker chose me, that means that my answer satisfied the asker. However, if the Y!A Community chose me, it could mean that none of the answers made the asker happy, and the asker might have felt like he had wasted 5 points.

Picked, because otherwise it shows the asker couldn't even be bothered to pick someone, and therefore it was a waste of my time answering.

Also when people vote they just vote for the answer which is the first of the list. Even if its a crap answer!!

Voted. Because a lot of times I find horribly written questions and I may have a smart aleck answer for it. Those reading it will appreciate the humor and vote for it. Whereas the asker just gets upset.

I prefer to be picked by the asker personally, because it means that my answer had been a great help to the asker himself/herself. ^_^

But in general, whether it is being picked by the asker or voters, it's still great to get the Best Answer!

The asker because I get annoyed that people will ask a question and not take the time to give your props for giving a good answer.
