This is really the wrong section, but I just happen to be a home gardener.

For a broad selection, try Gurneys. For more common flowers and vegetables, visit your local nursery or any of the big-chain home improvement stores that have an outdoor garden section such as Home Depot or Lowes. If you need help knowing how to grow the plants, the nurseries will more likely have people available and able to provide advice about soil, fertilizer, watering, and such. They all sell grown plants too, so wander through the outdoor area to see what you like best.

When you have more detailed questions, I suggest asking at Home & Garden > Garden & Landscape

Re second follow-up. One popular plant for school science projects is a pole bean. They do well near a sunlit window and conveniently grow up a pole quickly. Look for a package of string beans that says it grows a vine vs a bush.

There is really no such thing as a "regular plant". All plants are special :-)
