Depends on the apparatus. The official name given to any sort of flip by the Gymnastic Federation is "saulto". But there are a lot of variations of saulto. Also in actual practice, the names "somersault", "sommi" and "flip" tend to be used. Those would be modified by the word "twist" (in one form or another) if the saulto involves a twist and by the word "forward" or :"backward/reverse" depending on the direction of the saulto.

On the floor exercise the move you describe is called:
- a reverse somersault with a full twist. Or a back full for short...(any of the substitute names can be applied when naming)

Then there are the variations of the move:
- If its done with the body straight, it's called a "back layout with a full twist"
- If the twist comes before the flip, it's called a "full in, back somersault"
- If the twist comes after the somersault it's called a "back sommi, full twist out.
- If the gymnast bends at the waist it's called a full twisting back sommi (and again there are variations depending on where the twist occurs)

Three are name variations when this move is performed in the context of an exercise on the men's or women's vaulting horse, men's rings, men's or women's parallel bars, women's balance beam and men's high bar.

"Backflips" and "frontflips" in gymnastics are called saultos. They are also called somersaults, sommis and flips. However, their are many "backflips" in gymnastics. It all depends on the position in the air you are in. A backflip can be anything involving a backward motion while flipping with no hands. You can either be in a tuck position, knees toward chest, or a layout, body completly straight. Also, a 180 in gymnastics is a half. We have halves, fulls, one and a halves, doubles, two and a halves, triples, and some have even so quads, only on floor. We only twist while doing flips on floor and on dismounts on bars. Also, some vaults involve twisting. =)
