There's traditionally never been Wimbledon on the mid-tournament Sunday sabbath. It's the day of rest!

Stupid, stupid tradition. The LTA's full of aristocrats and people too British for their own good. There are only 4 days of Wimbledon that occur during the weekends, discounting the final weekend as there's only two matches and this year, Saturday because of the rain it means there's virtually no play during the weekends - absolutely no accommodation for the fans, who, surprise surprise, go to work during the week. The French Open begins on a Sunday, has an open day for kids the previous day and plays right through the second weekend. If the LTA want to promote tennis and shed it's snobby, middle-class image they have to let people participate more. We're not a religious country and the stadiums aren't closed off to the elite - so why the hell are we stopping play on a sunny day, on a weekend?

There is never any Wimbledon on the first Sunday of the tournament. Its just tradition. I have watched it since the early 90's. There was one Sunday when there was play because of the major rain delays. They lowered the price of the tickets so that the people who cant normally afford tickets could.

By tradition, Wimbledon takes the middle sunday OFF.

Reason - Its Wimbledon, its about tradition. Andre Agassi was not allowed to play Wimbledon for 3 years because he did not agree to stick to white clothing. What more can you say? He was smart enough to squeeze in an aqua white the year after he won it. Hehe...

Hey! The sunday is never played, it is known as Sunday Sabbath and only ever has games played on it when the tournement is behind schedule because of rain etc. These rare playable sundays are called 'People's Sunday' because you dont need to have booked a ticket to get in. You can just line up outside although you may have to wait overnight to get in. That's for MAD tennis fans!

As most have said there is never any play on the middle Sunday unless too many days are lost to rain,as for saying they never play on a Sunday that's rubbish as the mens final is played on the last day which just happens to be this Sunday July 8th.

Its tradition to not have any matches on the middle Sunday, except if too many earlier matches have been washed out by rain.
