And if so, what do you think has caused this?

I used to feel protected by trees. used to think flowers were fairies. I used to be in love with the moon and the ocean. I miss those feelings, they made me feel at peace.
I suppose in my case the growing responsibility at work and computer addiction (lol), takes time from reveries and enchantment.

What about you?

Unfortunetly, we all do. We become bombarded by society's rigorous rules of "what to" and "what not to" believe in, plus the obvious........ work, and the hum - drum of every day life, strongly contributes to this "distance" from mother nature. Children and animals don't have the almost unbearable responsabilities we as adults have, so they can and do frolic in the beautiful world of nature. I myself can completely relate to your dilemma...The world of "enchantment" is such a normal feeling to me too. Music...... relax and listen to ENYA, Sarah Brightmen, the excitement of YANI....there's also a book I picked up one time, quite unexpectedly , at Borders...it's titled, FAIRYOPOLIS A Flower Fairies Journal. It's an exact replica of a scrapbook journal that was presented to Frederick Warne & Co , in 1923, by Cicely Mary Barker from, The British Faerie Folklore Society, 32 Midshipman's Way Brighton, Sussex...It begins April 3rd and ends September 17th, and is filled with so many surprises! A little envelope filled with ferrie dust, an old recipe for fresh picked blackberry jam, a replica map of Sussex...It's absolutely beautiful...beautiful both inside and out....so please try and find it....take a break and look at it, along with some chamomile tea, serenaded by ENYA, and you will see that the moon, ocean, and trees, are still there, and so strong, and so comforting. They never left..... you did, but their waiting for you to close your eyes, relax, and come back to them..... They miss you......Take Care

I still feel protected by the trees and love the moon and the ocean! I live in the mountains and I feel like I'm being cradled in the earths bosom! I'm amazed by animals and the sound of the wind sends me into ecstasy! I have adult responsibilities and I think if it wasn't for the wonderment I still feel, I would go mad! Take a walk through the woods. Talk to a kitty cat. Stop and really look at a rose and let yourself feel the way you used to! It's so much more beautiful then that computer addiction you say you have! Give yourself the time for reveries and enchantments. You'll be so glad you did!

Natural history claims you back when you are alone with it - people with gardens and allotments tell of being related to it all. I discover an interest in virus-killers after I read a report about bacteriophages. There was a photograph of one that looked like Ned Kelly. It can bounce on a virus and kill it - but it's not alive, it can take itself to pieces and function incomplete. It's the sheer mind-boggling variety of it all amazes me.

I am still very aware of trees and what they can do. There has been a prediction they will be more important to us in future - more for the knowledge of their particular spirit that the Ancients used. It is something about transmitting information long distances.

No. I feel much closer to nature and feel a spiritual connection
to outside surroundings. These are things I did not feel as a child because I was not taught to think of all beings in terms of equal value to the earth, ecosystem and nature. I particularly feel this way when I watch squirrels gather and eat
everyday between 3 and 4 p.m. Observing birds at dusks also gives me a feeling of wonder. If I sit still they go on about their business as if they do not feel threatened by my presence. I have even gotten lucky enough to have one or two fly a couple feet within me. It feels good to be trusted that way.

I think general dissatisfaction in life has caused this.
Now I need something very interesting and unusual even in nature to impress me.
But people from different ages can see the nature in different ways.
It is in you, the capacity to see the beautiful things around you.
It comes from your inner peace and positive perspective. When I am calm and happy I really enjoy the nature.
I try to regain that naive, childish and poetic look of the world. And I missed it.

You are right. The times when we felt one with the nature have disappeared after mechanisation. This is the price we are paying for calling ourselves 'civilised'. The sadest thing is our children are totally lost in this concrete jungle and have no empathy with the nature. They not only not feel it but don't want to. Their world revolves around gizmos. Very sad.

I truly yearn for the magic touch of nature to touch my heart.....

I was "worrying" about a similar loss of "joy" yesterday, and then discovered that after I paused for several minutes to focus and get into it, "poof"! I was back there! You can do it. It's like focusing a camera. Give yourself a few minutes. (Allow it least fifteen. It won't take that long, but you need to feel not rushed.)

No. My awe was more down to earth and I've never lost it. I still believe in nature as an entity and the various parts of nature as being great in and of themselves.

even though Science has dissected Nature and reduced it to interactions among minuscule, vibrating particles...it's still, to me, all "magic"

there are still many things left to be imagined--still much more that hasn't yet been imagined.
