They've already paid for it a million times over, they can't make a cup of tea to save their lives. That'll teach them.
The tax was set so low it was cheaper to buy legally imported tea than the contraband stuff the Boston merchants were bringing into the colonies from Holland, it would have put them out of business. Nothing to do with freedom, more to do with self interest, so nothing changed there then in over two hundred years.
The rest is just propaganda (he said with a smile on his face).
PS: We still haven't compensated the Brazilians for nicking all their rubber plants
