I just heard that some dude wanted the world series to be 9 games instead of 7. Your thoughts?

I would actually like to see the World Series not be a serious. I think it's silly the way basketball and baseball do the playoffs. I would much rather see it like football. One game to determine who wins.

It used to be 9 games and I think that's more fair. (After all, baseball is based on stamina and having pitching depth, rather than 2 or 3 good starters needed to survive the playoffs.) However, 9 games would be too long. The playoffs are long enough and 9 games would diminish the value per game. For example, in football, the championship is one game, so it has a huge significance. In baseball, each series consists of several games, so winning a game is less meaningful.

Player agent Scott Boras has suggested having the first two games of the Series played at a neutral site. The theory behind it is that it would open up a new venue for corporate sponsors and give the Series a 'Super Bowl' type atmosphere. My thoughts are this: can you imagine the Cardinals in the WS and the first two games are scheduled at Wrigley Field? Or the Red Sox in the WS and the first two games at Yankee Stadium? That wouldn't be much of a neutral site.

Too long. The world series is already scheduled to go into November if it goes 7 this year. They need to shorten up some of the other series by taking away days off when teams aren't traveling.

Seven games is just right. Short enough to be enjoyable, yet long enough to allow a team who gets off to a bad start in the series to regain its composure and win. Witness the 2004 playoffs between the Yankees and Red Sox when the Sox were down by three games and came back to win the series.

Chow!!

well i think 7 is plenty. 9 would be too much best 5 of 9 would be long but the guy said it would get more money from 9 but i don't think the message has got to the commish. of baseball

why change it? so they MLB can squeeze in more game in between for tv ad revenue? 7 game series is good, I bet this 9 game idea comes from that greedy moron Scott Boras.
