I think its the emotion anxiety which causes the person to speak faster than his tongue can catch up with the thoughts his brain is processing.

There are all kinds of theories running around about the etiology of stuttering. Fact is, no one is really sure what causes secondary stuttering (stuttering that persists after age 5 and is accompanied by behaviors the stutterer believes will help him/her to be more fluent).
There does seem to be somewhat of a degree of heritability (genetics) and possible differences in brain structure in secondary stutterers.
The research is still out on this one; let me know if there's a breakthrough!

I think it has something to do with thoughts/brain working much quicker than the tongue can produce the sounds. Anxiety or nervousness may contribute. God bless****
