The original rules of ODIs stated that during the first 15 overs, only two fielders should be allowed outside a 30-metre circle around the wicket.

This meant that attacking batsman were likely to score runs quickly in the first 15 overs, but would become more watchful at the end of the spell.

In an effort to keep the game more exciting during the middle overs, the 15 over block with fielding restrictions at the beginning of the innings is reduced to 10, and thereafter, the captain of the fielding side has to decide when to bring his fielders in again for two further blocks of 5 overs, at any time he likes.

These 5 over spells are called Powerplay 2 and Powerplay 3. (Powerplay 1 is the first block of 10).

Power Play is the new name given to the 15 over Field Restrictions that were there before. There are 3 Power Plays in an innings. the 1st one is of 10 Overs (the 1st 10 overs compulsary) and the remaining 2 are of 5 overs each which the fielding captain can call for anytime in the remaining 40 overs.
During a powerplay field restrictions apply as in only 2 fielders are allowed outside the 36 yards circle. Hope this helps.

The fielding captain ought to shop his gamers everywhere he needed. Then, international Cup in 1996, ICC presented the 15 over field limit rule. basically 2 fielders have been allowed exterior the 30 backyard circle from the batsmen for the 1st 15 overs on an innings. And from the sixteenth over, 5 fielders have been allowed to go out. one greater substantial element of that rule grow to be that 2 fielders had to be in catching positions - 15 yards from the batsmen, till finally the sphere regulations utilized. Now, in mid 2005, ICC - headed via between the slowest batsman - Sunil Gawaskar got here up with some variations interior the limit rule. the previous 15 overs of field limit is larger to twenty over - in 3 blocks, referred to as potential Play. potential Play a million - Its necessary for the 1st 10 overs of an innings in a sooner or later cricket tournament. basically 2 fielders exterior 30 yards from the batsmen. And 2 fielders ought to be at catching positions.. potential Play 2 and 3 - those are 2 blocks of 5 overs each. The fielding captain makes a decision whilst he needs to hire those 2 block. the 2nd he demands the 2nd potential play and the 0.33 potential play, 5 overs from that distinctive over would have basically 2 fielders exterior the 30 yards circle. A captain won't be able to chosen for a potential play interior the midsection on an over. And whilst he sees that run value in back on top of issues, he can take potential play from that over. this is from 11th over or twenty first over. yet he has to take those 2 blocks interior of those 40 overs. in any different case, the final 10 overs will immediately be potential performs. observe - No catching fielders required during the potential performs. basically for the 1st 10 overs of the tournament.
