My fella watches it all the time and tries to explain a lot of the background etc to me but i often end up completely confused.
I think i've discovered a flaw that even he cant answer though.
When they dial out to go visit anouther planet, it has often been said that it is impossible to go both ways through the gate. Eg. You have to go one way and re-dial it at the other end to come back again.
So, when thay send the MALP through to check the coast is clear, how do they recieve the radio signal back at stargate command. the same goes for radio contact between sg1 and command.

As others may have said, this only applies to physical objects such as guns, bombs, paper airplanes, people, etc. Radio waves are not. If you climb a really difficult cliff, you probably can't go back down it, but you can radio to the person at the bottom of it.

Because RADIO waves are not physical matter like a human body.

The principal = The gate breaks down solid matter and reintegrates it on the other side - RADIO waves have no MATTER and so do not need to be reintegrated and can therefore pass freely between the two gates -

Hope that helps - tell him to keep an eye out for the upcoming films - straight to DVD - Stargate The Ark of Truth & Continuum - wraps up the closing chapter with the Ori at end of Season Ten

Radio doesn't count because it is not physical, and doesn't have any mass. It's only something which exists as an object or human that cannot go both ways. Your fella has great taste by the way cos Stargate was one of the best sci-fi programmes on the telly! I miss it already.

If that's the only flaw they're getting off easily. They can't come back from the same spot; otherwise they'd have no plot.

I have never heard that the gate opening was a "one-way" door" for every dial out they made.

Crimony!

Have we lost the ability to differentiate between SCIENCE and SCIENCE FICTION?

You really need to take this topic up in the Entertainment section. Hollywood is not about science as much as it is about entertainment. Savvy?
