Lao Tzu will finally receive the recognition he deserves when science finally finds the Theory of Everything. He is thousands of years ahead of everyone.

Charles Darwin did nothing of the sort - He was a devout believer in the created universe. Please check your history.
What Darwin did was to form an opinion based upon observations. He didn't invent evolution - that happens anyway, he just observed its effects and documented his opinions.
It was actually other people who came up with all the phrases Darwin has become famous for "survival of the fittest", "the missing link" and "man descended from monkeys", etc.
Darwin, not unreasonably, believed in a God who is wise enough to include evolution as part of His Divine Plan. It is only narrow minded bigots who cling on to the creationist theory who seem to be saying their God (to whom a thousand years is but a moment) doesn't have the intelligence to have thought of such a process - Which rather makes me wonder how they define "omnipotent".
As for a person who has changed the world - I don't believe there is anyone who could fit the bill - Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna all have their followers. If we're sticking to the main religions I guess a case must be made for Abraham, being the father of them all, or his brother for popping his clogs and giving Abraham the chance to shack up with his widow.
Needless to say, when a man is felt to have had a major influence upon the world, it's seldom because any good came out of it.

My vote goes to Jesus...he shook the whole planet out of the wooly-minded slumber that religion had meandered us into...and wised us up to our real situation.

Whether Jesus Christ lived or not, and as an agnostic I can accept that the man might have lived. Christianity has had a huge effect on the world as it exists, bigger than Charles Darwin.
I am surprised that you cannot see that influence, and would suggest that you are blind to it, because you do not accept Christianity.
I cannnot accept Christianity, but I cannot ignore what I see before me. Churches are everywhere, even my street was named after a Christian article.

Two fold: Niccolo Machiavelli & Adam Smith...
P.S. Anyone who says Jesus has no idea either of history in general or of the socio-cultural condition of the world. And since I'm on this rant, those advertisements saying that Jesus was the most influential person/name in history also have no clue!
Karl Marx had a much bigger impact ALONE than Jesus did!

Id like to agree with you,very much so;
But it may well be too early to see if he remains the
Icon him and his theory really is.Dont get me wrong,i
was pleasantly surprised and gladdened on this Sunday
morn, that someone else realises the significant importance
and influence that this theory has and is having on
humankind.
(And some people,so-called teachers,closet politicians
from-the-centre too, actually still do not have a clue what
an influence this idea is having!).
Please dont forget that this idea coincided with an explosion
in mass education-and i say "an explosion", for the mass
education that started in the 1900's could well stop and
reverse itself(!)- although i could be persuaded that Darwinism started that, then.
In answer to ur question, and discounting religious persons,
id say possibly Plato,or Aristotle(the founder of logic); And
for those who do not know,id remind them that his work
was read and taught throughout the ages-hundreds of years
if not thousands!

Just curious...how did he explain the platypus? Or the catweazle? Tee hee
:) I'm hoping I evolve into a cat. They are the superior species.
Perhaps Darwin did have the biggest impact on "how the world is today" because today's world is a mess & the fact that no one believes in God would account for the faithless, depressed, stressed, crime-ridden, substance-abusing, nihilistic population that is destroying itself. I guess that's evolution at work...
:)
Peace out.
