Kerry, if he's still at school, his family may not be able to afford better clothing. If he's independent, tell him he needs to add a bit of colour to his wardrobe. He might get the hint, but you might have to take him in hand and educate him in sartorial elegance, or the modern equivalent for his age group.

thing that has worked for me is to take him round the charity shops (cheap) and look at stuff. when you see something you'd like him to wear say stuff like "this is nice, what do you think?", then if he likes it buy it for him. if you do that maybe once/twice a month, he'll start to trust your advice.
they key is to do it slowly and with him rather than buying him stuff he may not like. charity shops are good because they're small and sell lots of different stuff, so he won't be able to complain that you're taking him shopping against his will.
my boyfriend even likes shopping with me now!
good luck :)

is he a good boyfriend?
is he gentle & kind?
does he make you laugh & feel special?
if you said yes to all of the above.

what does it matter what clothes he wears?
there are worse things than being what you wear.

he probably wears what makes him feel comfortable.
start making hints about smartening up,
is just plain unfair & wouldn't be him.
would it?

sorry but i think you're a bit too demanding.

Unstylish and fit for the rag bag. Wouldn't it be nice to have some nice trendy gear.
