It's possibly she is more prone to getting sick, due to either her diet or some other issue. Or it could be, that the daycare does not clean often enough which would contribute to it as well. Other factors such as her putting things in her mouth, sleep, etc also contribute. A fever of 103 that often does not sound normal to me, however. It's possible too if it is her first year in daycare that could be the cause. Often in a child's first year of school or a teacher's first year of teaching we get sick pretty often as our immune systems are dealing with the sudden exposure. I agree that not all daycares are good. In fact, it's probably pretty rare to find a decent one. I worked at a child development center during my undergrad studies and it was decent. The teacher I worked with and I both had a 'thing' for clean faces, clean diapers, and a clean classroom. We'd do a surface clean (table, chairs, doorknobs, and any toys that may need attention) once a day and a full clean (the above plus floor, cots, all the toys, trash can, etc) once a week, and had very little illness among the kids or ourselves. It's very important, especially in the classes of infants, 1s, and 2s, to have pretty high cleanliness standards. However, at the same time we had kids that ate oreos for breakfast and didn't go to bed until 11 pm. And we had mothers that would give their sick child tylenol and say that they had allergies so that we wouldn't realize they had a fever until later in the day. By then, of course, their child had probably infected half the class. Also, the boy I now nanny for while I'm in grad school had an issue with his white blood cell count (neutropenia of an unknown cause) until he started growing out of it recently. As a result, he got sick very very easily. So there are a lot of factors at play both on the part of the child, parents, and daycare.
