I wouldn't call him a debater so much as a commentator. He is brilliant at being able to critically analyze a topic and succinctly express the plus (or minuses) of the issue.
He also has an unbelievable database of things that have happened going back decades upon which he can draw. He will pull out long-forgotten quotes and statements when someone is being inconsistent or to draw analogies upon something that is happening today.
That is a big reason why the Left hates him so vehemently, because he'll catch them in inconsistencies that others have long forgotten about.
I hope you give him a week or two in order to best judge whether you find his show interesting. It is hard to really understand him in less time than that.

He sounds good but if you pay attention, his arguments all start from an unvalidated assumption which will inevitably lead to his opinion being "right". He is very good at that, but that does not make him a good debater or a good source of information.

Rush is the master of all talk radio. I listen to him daily, and I find his analysis of national and international news and events to be stunningly accurate. As for his debate skills, he really doesn't have much of what you'd call debate on his program; mainly alot of callers with unsubstantiated innuendo that Rush dispatches with efficient ease. He tells it the way it is in accordance with reality, and people hate him for it. The price you have to pay for being a conservative Republican these days, I'll tell you.

Sorry to go down this routebut Rush uses race baiting tactics to appeal to all the closet rascist conservatives out there. They would never admit to it though.
Rush is an entertainer, just like Hannity, (M)ann Coulter, and Geraldo ect. They are there to bring ratings and sell advertising not to debate. He would not win an intellectual political debate in real life, especially on his radio show because he's the moderator so the playing field is not level.
Rush never once strays from the Neo-con agenda. That alone should tell you something. He always agrees with whatever the President or any top conservative says. That's because he's on the White House payroll.

I don't care much for him. But I don't care for talk radio in general. He is no better or worse then those on Air America. I can think for myself and don't need some arrogant talk show host telling me how to think.

I like him. He is full of himself but, when he IS right 99% I guess he is allowed to. Those here that say he is wrong and a lier can't prove it. There have been numerous people trying to bring him down and haven't. He can't afford to be wrong. He does his homework to be sure of all the facts.
