Of the few possible scearios in the group, this looks to be a need win situation for the US for hope of getting out of the group stage or face a mountain of goal differential provided the US beat Colombia and the 3 points from the win is enough to claim a 3rd spot. I suppose, depending on other groups, a tie and win may be enough for a 3rd spot. What can be said about going into the game? We can rest well with the idea that argentina will advance but I am unaware of Paraguays strength, pre copa. From the looks of their first game, either Paraguay is quite powerful team, or Colombia was a weak opponent. Or maybe Colombia just had a very bad game (i didnt watch it) and Paraguay isnt the threat the score reflected. I anticipate a tough team either way come monday whatever the case. What your thoughts going into this game?

A tie with Paraguay and a win with Colombia would tie point wise at 4 with paraguay assumming they lose to Argentina. Depending on the Argentina Paraguay score, US would only take 3rd in goal differential. That may not be enough to take either 3rd place spot.

Even the best USA team would be hard pressed to advance to the next round.

Since Paraguay owns the goal differential advantage right now, the next game is a must win for the US. However, the latest FIFA rankings have the US at #16, Colombia at #31, and Paraguay at #37, so the US is still expected to advance.
