A book I highly recommend to all my friends and family is the book A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. It is a true story about a little boy who lives in Sierra Leone Africa. He is forced to run away from home when rebels start taking over towns and villages. He is forced to become a child soldier. You get a firsthand account of what he went through. What he felt, what he saw, and experienced.Well I don't want to give away too much, but I guarantee you won't be disappointed. The best book I've read in a long time!!

My current favorite book is Grimm's Fairy Tales, published by Barnes & Noble, 1993. I picked it up at a library book sale and was astonished at the differences between the real stories and the stories we read as children. It's really a dark and horror-filled book in which murder and religious prejudice are actually advocated. I've discussed this book with friends and they are also shocked at the real contents. Another favorite book is "Gulliver's Travels," the adult version. In it we see expressions of hatred for women and for society in general. It's amazing how many childhood stories are watered down and edited versions of these horrible tales. I'm not saying that I agree with these books; Im' actually appalled at them. They're my favorites because I've learned the true feelings behind these seemingly innocent stories.

For mid teens you cant do better than "the Curious Incident Of The Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon. It won the Whitbread in 2003 and the Commonwealth Writers in 2004.
Its the story of a 15 year old boy with Autism and his struggle with the relationships in his life. It's poignant and stirring. I loved it.

Otherwise I recently read Gone with the Wind. Its a true classic, I recommend it to anyone who likes classic novels.
