No. It's online. If you decide you want to meet in person, than telling your real name is probably a good idea. However, using an internet only name makes it less likely you'll end up with a real life stalker from an internet friendship. Also why you never post where you actually live or give out a phone number.

No there is NO need to tell anyone your real name. And as I'm sure you already know, you MUST be careful on line and telling any private personnal info could be a mistake. But if and this is IF you are comfortable with someone, then yes tell them your name. OK, so whats your name? LOL JK

I would never ever give out my details over the net.....unless I was 100% sure I knew who I was speaking to. I have met people on the internet and they are now good friends, but we all met through message boards which I feel is a bit safer. So when we decided to meet there was a group of us. I wouldn't give my real name yet until you know who you are talking to is for real.

I think most definitely not. You're never going to meet them, right? If you do decide to meet an online friend, bring a friend that is 300 pounds of pure muscle, in case it's some freaky rapist guy who's very patient.

I believe it is good to tell someone your real name, using an alias or code name is like wearing a mask. If you want to be trusted you have to trust. Eric...(but you knew that already) Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive.

i think once you trust them or wanna actually have a friendship with them its fine to tell them your first name. It prolly wouldnt take me a year to decide that prolly more like a month. I would never give out my full name to anyone and have only to this day given it to one person who i really trust

If you can tell you that you are going to be talking to this person for a long time (weeks, months...) then yeah. I always start out with an alias... gotta beware of the freaks!
