Can anyone recommend any stores here in Newcastle, UK that sell individual tableware pieces?

They have all kinds of patterns and sell by the individual piece.

I don't know what stores you specifically have in your area, but near where I live there is a lovely little close-out /overstock store that sells individual dishes, as well as sets.

That sounds too cheap. You need to feel the weight of the silverware. You could always use the dishes later, but you still want a good quality silverware for everyday use

Do you have a Walmart close by?
I've found individual dinner ware there, and white is quite common.
