I agree, if an animal is suffering we put it down, we should have the right to die with dignity if we are terminally ill and in pain.

My mother, many years ago saw a documentary in which a woman suffered from Alzheimers. She asked me that, should she ever get into that state that I would have her 'put down.' I told her that it would not be legal and that she couldn't fairly ask me to do it. Even so, I did understand what she meant.
Mum died on 29 December 1999. She was really worried about the New Millenium and how it would affect computers - such as the electricity stations being switched off - by this time she was living in Australia - but did it make a difference - was she really that worried? We will never know! Thankfully, I never had to make a decision!
My father died on Easter Monday this year. He believed that it was wrong to take life at any price - but he had cancer of the oesophegus. He was being drip-fed with nutrients and morphine. He would never come out of this to recover. It was decided to remove the drip-feed and just allow him the morphine - and then a couple of days later, the morphine was also taken away from him because he was in a coma and as far as we knew, he couldn't feel anything (but I have to ask if we can really be sure!). He actually survived a further week without any fluids - which I didn't think was possible!
If I have no potential quality of life - then let me go. It is not murder, it is a merciful surrender.
I don't know why you are asking this question, but if you have to explain it to yourself - or someone else, then just think about how you would feel in the same situation.
I have decided that for me, I would not like to be a burden on the hospital or anyone else. Just put me down! But of course, there would have to be a very careful plan put into place - because it could be so open to abuse - and that could include murder for something as simple as inheritance!
I have no probem with death with dignity - but there are other factors to consider!

This is a horrible question to try to answer. I have sympathy for those who have to make this choice in real life.
Apart from religious reasons there is a very slippy slope from the point at which the dying person wishes to make an end ( suicide is a sin) of it and subtle pressure brought to bear on them perhaps unconsciously but sometimes deliberately.
I believe that euthanasia a cardinal sin to do this but perhaps it is also a cardinal sin to let people die in humiliating circumstances. Being sinful I must choose the lesser sin but I do not know which it is. In these circumstances if I am to be honest I can not give the answer I would wish because it feels rather glib and self satisfied

My mum had been sick with various debilitating illnesses for 20 years of her life. She had had both legs amputated, was riddled with Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, raynauds disease and in the end died from double pneumonia. She often told us that she did not want to live her life as a vegetable and she was fiercely independent. She went into hospital and over 3 weeks her health deteriorated. My brother and I watched, as she went into what doctors called a 'sleeping decline'. All medication as stopped apart from pain relief. It took 2 further weeks for my mum to die. We sat through every agonising minute, and it was horrible. I would not put my dog through that amount of suffering, so why should my mum have to have gone through it?
Sorry, back to the question. I think people should be allowed to die with dignity, if properly managed, supervised and thought through.

This is a real tricky one because I have seen a relative;
my aunt euthanized because my aunt was a burden on them.
However, when my aunt finally died and I did see her pass on
the fight or flight response was still there and she was fighting to live and then expired. That shocked me. If that is what is called dignity I don't think I want that. What is dignity anyhow? What does one perceive as dignity? I would prefer to die in my sleep. My aunt did not die in her sleep. She was still fighting to live before she died.

With certain guidelines set up by the medical profession and with adequate oversight, there is no reason on earth why a person should not have the right to die with dignity.
The only people it really bothers is those who it goes against their personal belief or religion. By them banning it, that makes them selfish as hell.
Peace

would you allow you pet to suffer needlessly!
i remember my dog from when i was a teenager she had internal bleeding the vet said she could live for a short while longer but she would be suffering unnecessarily so it would be kinder to put her down, and although we missed her we were happy with the decision we made because we knew if we had not put her down her last days she would have been suffering.
do we not have the same right as dogs, why should we have to watch a loved one suffer when they could have a peaceful end.
i think we should have the right to have our last days as happy as possible, and when life becomes no longer pleasurable, and you are living a life that is too painful, we should have the right to a dignified death.

Fine.
But give me a couple of days chance to come out of it, before you decide to kill me.
It could be that Hillary will take care of it. Perhaps with her National Health Care System, all common people will be "put to sleep" as soon as they reach the age of 62.
With dignity.......
That would take care of the Social Security problem, also.
And.....It would give Democrats billions more dollars, to buy votes with their Socialist Welfare System.
