legally you would have to hand it over to the police. a few babies have been left in recent months in australia, and the couple that found one of the babies is no longer allowed contact with that baby. The police put the baby into foster care while they are tracking down the mum. Usually they will wait a year or two, and if no parent comes forward, they put the baby up for adoption.

I would bring it to the hospital and let them deal with it. Its not up to the person who finds the baby to decide where it goes. A baby that lands on someones door step didn't appear from out of nowhere. That stuff happens in China and Russia all the time. That's why there are orphans that get bought from Canadians and Americans. Most women who do leave their babies like that are usually scared.

I would call the police and report what happened. More than likely an officer will take the child and begin the process that needs to happen to insure the safety of the infant. I would however, keep track of the baby and ask the police if they would keep me informed.

have you ever DEALT with a baby? If someone leaves one on your doorstep, RUN in the other direction! :) Naw I love babies,-I would cry if someone did that,I just dont understand how people are so careless about thier own children, Ive seen much abuse, and I just cant get it-children are INNOCENT and as close to perfection as humans can get, how can ppl be such bad parents! Selfishness! I would take care of any baby to see that nothing bad happened to him/her,I would take care of 5 babies even! Whats wrong with women that they are killing thier own babies! Or leave them in trashcans-or on a doorstep-are these types of things even human??????

Do NOT answer your door if you hear a child crying on your porch, not too long ago there was a scam warning that that is how your home can be invaded. Call the police immediately and tell them you hear a baby/child crying on your porch. Be safe before all else.

Phone the police but offer to care for the baby until they find someone to look after the baby.

Hmm I would say I would call the Police Department to have them come out and take the Baby so they can find the original Babies Mom.

go to the authorities first...and see if there is family around that wants this baby...it belongs with it's family first,and they may not even know it was just dropped off. then if the authorities couldn't find any immediate family that this baby belongs to. and i could afford to properly care for the baby then i would request to care for it....unless there was a family out there that desperately wanted to adopt this baby. but yes, if circumstances were right and there was no one out there then i would definitely adopt it. God put that baby in my life for a reason. i couldn't ignore that.

Nurse the baby first and then ask for help especially those on social services to avoid some problem that will arise with it. And if possible, adopt the baby...

I would ring social services, I would say to them I do not mind looking after it until a suitable home can be found and i would make sure it was safe and well.
