1996 and newer you can buy a handheld scanner Northern tool Harbour freight $45 to $90 so you can read and clear trouble codes OBD 2 onboard diagnostic two put into cars for correct emissions repair. However anti lock brake information transmission trouble codes and other body control related information are for factory only scanners. Injecto-Clean dot com has $400 to $900 scan tools that are almost as good as factory some even talk blue tooth with my lap top.
