Many times on Yahoo answers people have suggested we are free to believe what we want to, I do not accept that as a fact.
What would you like to believe, but can't?

Where is the paradox?
Somebody said they would like to believe in fairies, I would also like to believe in fairies, but I can believe in fairies just because I want to, there is no evidence I would need to believe. There is no paradox.

I can't believe in fairies just because I want to.

"Our freedom is that we can believe in whatever we think is true." How is that a freedom?
All that means is we can believe what we believe, we cannot choose not to believe in what we believe, our believe change with experience.

"To want to believe something you know is untrue, is to want to be delusional."
I only want to believe what is true, there are somethings which I would like to be true, and so would like to believe.

If fairies were real, and science was wrong, then science would adjust.

Confusing knowing with believing.
To believe means to think it is true.
Some people may be able to believe without reason, or because somebody tells them it is true, but offers no evidence. I cannot do that. I don't want to do that, If I could just believe one particular thing, I could believe everything I want to believe.

I'd like to believe in Life after death

You are confusing knowing and proving with believing. I can believe anything I choose to believe, it need not make sense to you or anyone, however, proving to the point of knowing, now that is something else all together. So, yes, I believe in fairies, lol. Do I know they are real? Hardly. I believe anyway.

God. I'd love to believe in God, but logic and reason tell me otherwise. I'd love to run around happy that God is watching over everything and it'll be a-okay in the end... I'd love to be living in this delusional happy land.

I'd love to believe in psychology. It's really just a system to adjust deviant paradigms. If you think about it, some of those paradigms aren't even necessarily wrong - they're different. Who says everyone should love and cherish this society? Why should we force people to? Why do we encourage happy drugs? Why not just make the world a better place?

I BELIEVE haha that we are free to BELIEVE in what we want to. However, I don't think we have as much freedom as we should do to express those beliefs!

For many years, I just tried to fit in with people..I laughed at their jokes even though I didn't find them funny, I talked the same stupid slangy language as them..I listened to the same crap meaningless music as them...

Then a time came when I thought "That's not me..that's not what I want to be!" and gradually I changed and now I'm proud of who I am.

However..

Although proud of my beliefs I still have some of which I chose not to share..Because there are only few people that are on the same page as me..

The rest are in a completely different world and would laugh at my deep thinking, they wouldn't understand anything!

There is nothing I CAN'T believe in, but I would like more freedom to express my present beliefs. I would like to be assured and confident that when I express them people won't laugh in my face, but understand..*Keep on dreaming Char!*

Many thanks...

To want to believe in that which I know is not true is to want to be delusional, and I like my sanity too much to do that. Our freedom is that we can believe in whatever we think is true.

Fairies are cute but there are some massive ramification if they were real.

I would like to believe in a fair and just God. The evidence rampant on the planet prevents me from doing so.

There are many things I would like to believe in, however, after I learn new information I no longer can believe, especially in "blind faith". One example would be, Adam and Eve, who in my mind would have had to have been amoebas if they were the beginning. I prefer to believe in amoebas instead of continuous incest as the source of humankind existence. Why would I have blind faith when there is visual proof.

That people are basically good. That life is fair. That I can have anything I want.

I'm trying to be positive but it's tough when I'm surrounded by negative. Some days it's hard to believe in anything.

It's impossible, your question contains paradox.
"I would like to believe" means that I want to believe but I have some doubts about the matter, I hesitate.
"I can't believe" means that I don't believe at all, without any hesitation. If I cannot believe something, I have indisputable proofs that deny the possibility of belief.

Thus, we should speak about "Is there anything you would like to believe?"
My answer: I would like to believe that everything will be OK.
