A person can be spiritual without being religious.
Oh yeah, *drink*

You just need to take a look at the problems being caused by religions. Religion was the cause of most problems in Northern Island and is certainly the cause of problems in the Muslim community. These people are all nutcases. Bred by a sick belief system created by someone else, and there is NO proof to support any of it. Some Morman guy says no coffee so the sheep follow, the Taliban say grow beards so the sheep follow. Muslim says for woman to hide beautiful face so sheep follow.
Being a good person and caring about our fellow man and woman is all that is required. We have the choice in a free world NOT to follow like sheep. The problem being there is a lot of NO free world. Many people are forced to follow like sheep.

I am here for a lot of reasons, but not least of which is to help clear up misconceptions about atheism. I'd rather not have people getting their education about what I believe from clergy or holy books. The Bible says that atheists are corrupt fools who can do no good (Psalms 14:1) which is an obvious lie. Clergy have a vested interest in trying to make us look bad..their jobs are at stake. Many clergymen give false reasons to their laity for why we disbelieve and it has led is to be the most distrusted minority in America.
So basically for the same reasons a Christian wouldn't want people to get their education about Jesus from a Satanist is why I don't want people to get their education about atheists from preachers and holy books. Remember we don't have radio and TV stations, a holy book, or a church on every corner for people to find out what we actually believe.

I'm a Christian, but I think it has something to do with how people interpret/judge them. I think some of them are curious as to what people think of them, and even more are here to eliminate misconceptions.
I posted this myspace bulletin as a journal post. It was about stereotypes, and how they should not be accepted. One of lines was If a person is an Atheist, they hate the world. I'm sure a lot of people believe that to be true. I know I don't. :P (Just an example)

I sometimes wonder what atheists see in trying to "convert" Christians. I know most Christians think they will get some kind of credit in heaven for converting an atheist. But what do atheists think they will get out of it?
That being said, I still like atheists and strangely have found many to be far more sensible than alleged "Christians".
Is there some other place you would rather see them?
Remember, Atheism is a religion too. Or so many feel.

But not curious enough to oh, think about your question for two seconds.
Also not curious enough to search and find the 967,409 incarnations of this same question.
I'm here because I care.
Religion negatively impacts every last creature on this planet in one way or another. And that's why I care.

here is why i come here. all of my life, i have been a non believer, i just don't FEEL it. when other people have known this (rarely, as i don't exactly go around saying "hey i don't believe in your god") they seem mad at me. they act like it's so obvious, that there must be something wrong with me if i don't believe. the more i hear about religion, the more i don't believe.( although i consider myself an agnostic). there are as many versions of religion as there are people, and EVERYBODY thinks their way is right. it's been pretty interesting.

I think it is because we are concerned about where our world is going and we want to help you. Many of us Atheists have studied for quite some time before realizing there is no God. I have found significant evidence there is no God and I want to share it with everyone. That is my answer, thank you.

Some of us enjoy discussing it just as much as the religious, others simply like to put the religious down all the time.

I'm here for many reasons... a *drink*… and:
- Interest.
- To learn.
- To teach.
- *TRUTH* MATTERS!
- Religion ... is ... Dangerous!
- Networking with atheists (new!)
- Religion affects each and every one of us.
- The Xian Bible advocates my death! <<<<<<<<
- The Xian Bible says: KILL 2/3’s of ALL humanity!
- R&S Theists can *grossly* misrepresent science.
- R&S Theists can *grossly* misrepresent atheism.
- It’s an inalienable right, TYVM – get used to it!
- It's ABOUT R&S... NOT 'for' R&S.
- It's kind'a fun.
And From Y!A’s 5th Horseman:
Is asking, "Why do atheists care about religion?" like asking, "Why do peaceniks care about war?"
“Why do conservationists care about urban sprawl,
why do capitalists care about communism,
why do dietitians care about trans fats?”
And From Y!A’s New Dog Owner:
It was all well and good when you kept your superstitions to yourself, but when you began your campaign to tamper with science education, interfere with medical advances and tried to turn the U.S. into a nation of religious xenophobes it became clear that we needed to respond and not let your shallow and self serving interpretation of the bible run rough shod over the rest of the country (USA).
