My cat wakes me up in the morning by biting my nose (sometimes quite hard!) I've had cats all my life and never known one to do this. Does anyone else have a cat that does this - or even know why?

Argh, my cat used to do that too, at the exact same time every morning - the ridiculous hour of 5 o'clock. He's start on the nose, then I'd pull my blanket over my head, so he'd move on to my toes, which I would have to pull up under the blanket also, and then comes the full assault. He wriggled in under a gap he always managed to find somewhere along the blanket and bite any bit of skin he could find. Bastard. :)

That is a new one to me. I have come across many cats in my life but not one that does that. A short while ago out of curiosity about a relatives latest cat, I bought a book called Cat Confidential by Vicky Hall. A book like this might help.

My cat bites hard either underside of my arm or my achilles tendon for attention. I think she bites in those places because she knows that it will always get a reaction! She does it at any time when I'm in bed (I work night shifts) and she wants something. Normally as soon as she empties her food bowl. As she's just gone into remission from cancer, the vet says I have to build her up and so she knows that she must always have food in her bowl!

We used to have a cat when I was growing up that would kiss you awake in the morning. Sometimes he would bite people out of the blue but his front paws were crippled so we figured he had an issue with security. He didn't feel safe not being able to protect himself with his front paws.

Yes, my cat will lick and bite at my face until I wake up. The only solution I found was to lock him out of my bedroom at night!

Perhaps that cat just likes ur nose, and made a habit out of it. Different cats may have different habits.

It's quite normal, my cat Penne used to wake me up by licking my eyelids, she'd purr while she did it and still does it occasioanlly if she wants attention in the night, but thankfully the other two have yet to pick up any habit that seperates me from sleep.

Yes i have a 4yr old male cat who at 4.30am every day without fail comes in and nibbles my face he purrs whilst doing it so i presume it's because he wants to wake me for a cuddle he is also a very affectionate cat my 14yr old cat has never done it.

My Aunties cat Theo, climbs on the bedside table, to reach the door, pushes the door closed, and then stomps all over the bed, like he's wearing boots, so that she wakes up, and has to get out of bed to open the door, in case Theo needs his litter tray, and then of course, once she is up, she feeds him, which is probably what he wanted in the first place.
