Opiates are the oldest and safest form of pain control. NSAIDS can cause ulcers which can bleed. Tylenol damages your liver and kidneys if taken for a long time. The only danger with opiates-- IF taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor-- is dependance (VERY different from addiction, which is a behavioral issue). That is why most pain management clinics use pure opiates along with injections, massage, etc. to treat chronic pain. They have been given a bad name by idiots who abuse them and then blame their doctors for their own stupidity, but they are actually the easiest on your organs. Taken them exactly as prescribed and don't take them if you don't need them, and you'll be fine.

Any painkiller taken daily can affect your body systems. It is important that whatever you decide to take is 1. LEGAL, 2. prescribed or recommended by a licensed physician. It is also important that you take the recommended/prescribed dose. If you take Tylenol or acetametaphen you take no more than 4Grams in 24 hours. For extra strength tylenol, that would be 8 500mg tablets/caplets/whatev form you take it. Serious liver damage has happened in patients that regularly take more than the 4 gram dosing in 24 hours. I also recommend you look into pain management consults to help with your chronic pain...

I'm a chronic pain sufferer for 9 years now and I've taken the same meds for 8 of those years. At first my doctor had me on all different kinds of medication and I hated it. I hated putting all that stuff in my system. I went on line to find a pain killer that didn't have any tylenol or acetaminophen. I found roxycodone. He perscribed it for me and it doesn't do anything to my organs, I get checked at least once a year. My doctor also told me. Its percocet without anything else. Good luck to you.

Try a Yahoo search for "side effects" + ibuprofen (OR tylenol OR opiod) and see what you get.

I take Vicodin for severe osteo-arthuritis in the degenerative stages. I've had surgery on my spine twelve times and can hardly walk anymore. I have blood tests every six weeks and the doctor watches me closely.

Anything stronger and I break out with eczema, patches have been tried to no avail so, I have to suffer when it gets bad at times.

This used to be an excessively well query. I continually questioned why my aunt used to be so doped up on morphine and nonetheless in anguish correct earlier than she died of melanoma. I am now not for assisted suicide, however I see not anything improper with assuaging anguish with medicines, even though it hurries up demise. I desire she had the choice for the Fentanyl patch. It could have made matters so much simpler. And I trust Michelle. Hospice staff are heroes. They took care of my brother earlier than he died.

I think Ibuprofen is safe, I use it a lot when I am in pain and I do not have complains. Tylenol is not that strong so it never helps me, taking it is useless if you are used to ibuprofen.

Anything over the counter in small doses is fairly harmless. I agree w/ smoking pot as the most natural harmless option, otherwise i'd just take naproxin, or check out homeopathy.
