I know that the FLDS Mormons are the ones that believe that polygamy is acceptable and some of the LDS believe like most of us that polygamy is evil but do the polygamist Mormons think that their faith is more important than the US government?

I know that polygamy existed in the Old Testament of the Bible but that was before Jesus when primitive man also practiced living sacrifices and stoning to death. None of those actions would have even been permissible during the Renaissance yet polygamy was even practiced by LDS when our great grandparents were fighting the Civil War and is practiced to this day by the FLDS.

It was and still is illegal people!

yes. they believe that they are bigger than the government. The flds and lds are linked together. if people want to believe it or not. They come from the same root. Both believe in Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Both practice Polygamy.

Most Mormons will tell you that they no longer beleive in polygamy. For the most part that is true. Just about the time that the US government started really slamming down on them hard for it, their prophet "mysteriously" got a vision that it was time for it to end.

A branch broke off that still practices it. I beleive it is the "reformed LDS church", is one of them too, correct me if I am mistaken.

Yet the scriptures still have many passages that tell of polygamy being necessary to lead to ultimate eternal glory of the highest. It has been a major problem of the church to deal with changing their scriptures to adapt to revised beliefs over the years.

Many will note the "secret society" nature of Mormons. Polygamy may well still be practiced in the highest and secretest places in the church unbeknownst to the general public.

Bear in mind that all forms of polygamy are not illegal. Holding wives in a religious-not legal sense-cannot be stopped. Monogamy only applies to the amount of wives that can be recorded at the courthouse.

Mormons are taught to obey, honor, and sustain the laws of the land as long as they allow us to worship. If there is a conflict between God's laws and the laws of the land, God's laws are more important.

That is why the LdS Church continued to practice polygamy until 1890 despite all the troubles it caused with the federal government (land confiscated, leaders thrown in jail, etc). It was only when Wilford Woodruff received a revelation did the Church's stance change.

I'm LDS and I do not practice polygamy, but I do not consider polygamy evil as you say.

Having sexual affairs, mistresses, multiple sexual relationship and other sexual behavior outside of marriage, now that is evil.

There are men commits sexual sins with minor, even without polygamic relationships, so do not pin that label on polygamic marriages..

Old testament have polygamy, and God never say it was evil, until the men abuse its true nature. Abraham and Jacob was bless for it, but Solomon and David was punished for it.

As for it being illegal in present days, the law is what man make of it, and base on what politics the congress want to play with.
FLDS certainly have abuse the real nature of polygamic relationship, but I do not see how a society that close their eyes with extra marital affairs can do any better.

I am not defending those who practice polygamy, but aren't we having double standards and too judgemental on people who really taken care of their family, and close our eyes on others who cheats and destroy their family.

A lot of religious groups hold their faith higher than the U.S. government. That can make for some very moral citizens. They don't cheat simply because it is not illegal.
I don't remember that Jesus said anything about polygamy. He went along with a lot of the customs of his day.
Even U.S. monogamy held that women were not much more than servants and property of their husbands.
Up until the middle of the last century the social state of marriage was pretty bad in the U.S. whether you had one or several wives.

i don't believe in opr practice polygamy. i am not a lds, but any faith is or should be more important than the government. i would never put the law of man over the law of god. "pay back caesar's things to caesar, but god's things to god"

if god says do not murder but our government says go to war and kill.........i wouldn't go. it's called conscientious objection.

i obey the laws of the land as long as they do not conflict with god's laws. in the past, many that did not go to war were jailed. i would gladly be jailed for my loyalty. i hope i never sell out like so many have.

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Joseph Smith said this. The FLDS do not believe Joseph Smith.
