Personally, I think it was Franklin D. Roosevelt. Here's why:

1) Lead our country out of depression
2) created social security
3) created many commerce programs such as FDIC, TVA, SEC, etc...
4) stabilized the economy
5) greatly reduced unemployment
6) destroyed the nazi party and liberated imprisoned jewish people

There's a lot more, but I can't think of any right now off the top of my head. This guy did so much for our country and was the first and only president to serve for more than two terms. His face should be on Mt. Rushmore.

FDR worked so hard to help this country, that he literally worked himself to death while still in office. He still have many good plans for the nation but too bad his health could not keep up with his determination and drive. The doctor said he was over exhausted.

But anyways, this is just my opinion. No need to throw a fit people

Get your facts straight. World War II started in 1939. The US did not want no part of it. But after the Japanese bombed pearl harbor in 1941, what do you think the US should have done? Over 3000 people died that day and hundreds of innocent people injured. What did you think the US should have done? Be cowards and not fight? As an aftermath, that is why they bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

And World War II was NOT the bloodiest war. The Civil War lost more American lives than all the wars put together. Learn some history before you posting false information.

People, just chill, I am just trying to state facts

FDR led us out of a Depression and right into the biggest war the world ever had.

FDR introduced a ton of socialist programs that we are still suffering with.

FDR when he did not get his way tried to pack the Supreme Court with extra judges.

FDR locked up the Japanese Americans even though J. EDGAR HOOVER told him it was Un-Constitutional.

FDR made a deal to win Europe away from Hitler only to give half of it to Stalin.

He was only "the greatest" if you are a closet commie.

I vote for TEDDY ROOSEVELT. ... Walk Softly and Carry a Big Stick. When he was President, the USA did not take crap from anyone.

2, Ronald ( the Senile) Reagan
3, George H. W.( read my lips) Bush
4, Gerald ( Graceful) Ford
5, Richard (tricky Dick) Nixon
6, Lyndon Baines Johnson

I'd say it was a tie between both Roosevelts, Theodore and his nephew Franklin. If I had to choose, I would choose Teddy, a moderate Republican, and the embodiment of what the Republican Party SHOULD be!

Ronald Wilson Reagan. Without a doubt.

A man of purpose and principle, who had a vision which he was able to communicate not only to Americans, but to the world. The architect and engineer who won the Cold War, and had the balls and the ability to expose Communism for what is was--the most insidious and empty ideology ever to lord itself over men.

No, Reagan was not immune from scandal. But even in this was demonstrated a nobility of character. What History judges as his greatest crime--The Iran/Contra Affair--was implemented not for his own glory, or power, or gain, but to prevent Communism from spreading its roots deeper into our hemisphere.
---------------------------
(Edit) FDR? Are you kidding?

Sure, he led America through World War II. But the man was a goddamn Communist. This was a guy who implemented the idea that the government ought to start treating its citizens as children, by taking responsibility for the minutiae of their daily lives. This @sswipe was friends with Joseph Stalin, affectionately calling him "Uncle Joe," and cluing him in on America's most classified military secret--The Manhattan Project. This is the man who poured the foundations of the post-war Soviet Union, and gave them the means to engage us in a 40-plus-year Cold War.

That FDR was President during World War II was a benign accident. Considering the inability of politicians to micromanage wars in those days, a potted plant could have been President, and we'd have still won the war, thanks to the Generals who planned it.

Nixon until the liberals ruined him.

Otherwise, Reagan.

Calvin Coolidge also merits serious consideration for how well he handled the economy.
