I am in the army and every day we do heavy physical activity and sometimes my knees hurt. Will 1500mg of glucosamine once every 2-3 days help?

And will supplements like glucosamine, fish oil and vitamin supplements cause kidney stones? (i take all of these and worry about over medicating myself).

Thanks!

Yes of course oyu can take glucosamine as you are 19 years old. But the amount you are taking is high. Yes this is the normal dosage, but this is for osteoartheritic patients, as you are 19 you should cut down to about 500mg to 1000mg a day; your body is already producing this chemical - and enough of it.

There is also some skepticism on whether or not taking large quantities of glucosamine supplements can increase your chance of getting diabetes as it may interfere with the hexoamine biosynthesis pathway. Though this has never been proved. Neither has anything about glucosamine supplements or any other supplements increasing your chance of getting kidney stones.

I would suggest however that you see your doctor immediatly about your knees. You are only 19 and should not be experiencing any pain in your knees after any type of excercise.

I Hope This Has Helped You

reccomends: Glucosamine with MSM (not Chondrodine) the MSM helps with development and the Glucosamine helps with movement. The Chondrodine has not been proven in developmental studies to be effective, like they once thought.
My daughter is a Marine and I send this to her every 30 days. You are supposed to take 3 tablets a day everyday and with food (to prevent upset stomach) Do not take all 3 at once, it is not as effective and will really make you sick-even with food. (wrap them in plastic and boot them in your boot if you can't put them in a pocket) Warning, they are considered horse pills (meaning: very large)

For vitamin supplements: You really only need a multi-vitamin like a Centrum or One a day. Store brands are fine to take just look at the ingredients and try and make sure you don't buy any with talc or at least it needs to be not the first 3 ingredients, it is a filler and holds no value to you. Also, try and find one that has the most B vitamins and the highest B-12 and iron that you can find (it will help if you are tired.)
If you suffer from leg cramps or just leg pain try potassium (fresh bannanas are best) you can usually find it in a complete multi-vitamin. Try to find one that you only have to take once or twice a day. You are too busy to have to worry about pills.

Fish oil-for the Omega 3 is not necessary if you are getting enough to eat and taking the multi-vitamin daily.

Drinking at least 64 oz of water (BEST) or at least a non-caffinated beverage will help detour kidney stones (painful little buggers-Had them; ecccccchhhh!!!!)

If all else fails go to your pharmacist and ask what they would reccommend.

Hope this helps.

If you are in Army and a combatant ie entitled to a personal weapon, don`t take any medicine without reporting sick and getting a prescription. Every army doctor will tell you Glucosamine is a placebo and vitamin supplements are not needed.
