I don't know where your information regarding lighter inks came from but the risks of using them are minuscule. The riskiest ink to work with is red because quite a few people are allergic to it; purple is a mix of red and blue so I'd say purple would be riskier than light inks. If you're worried about lead then don't be... all inks used to REPUTABLE shops have to be approved before use.. most of these shops will try to avoid using inks that have not been approved for cosmetic use. If you're really concerned about the health concerns related to tattoo's then my advice would be to avoid them all together. A tattoo carries with it a massive amount of health risks that range from blood infections to lymph node problems (when the metals in ink decompose and stick themselves to your lymph nodes) various skin cancers and even pigments that can BIND to your DNA. So yeah... Basically ALL inks carry this kind of risk.

I just got my first tattoo last night. I discussed with my tattoo artist the possibility of a particular part of it being done in purple versus in blue. He was extremely forthright with me in noting that purple does fade more, and requires more frequent touch up's to stay nice, unless you are going very, very light with it. I made the decision that even though I like purple, too, blue would be a better decision for me in the long run.
My understanding, as a layperson, is that black retains its color better than the other color shades, and is often used to outline colors to help "keep them in," much in the same way that some women use lipliner to keep their lipstick bordered.
I think your very best bet is to take some time calling around and speaking with various studios and artists, or taking your design in and meeting with them. You may determine that purple works for you in spite of what other people do with their color choices. But being well informed by experts who know and deal with this will serve you well when you are dealing with permanent ink on your skin. Best of luck with it! :)

I don't actually like tattoo but I think if go for it, will be a small and meaningful tattoo, not just the bigger fancy type of tattoo! It certainly looks obvious! Purple colour would be better than black, this is what I think.

No it wont fade more than black. I would recommend outlining it in heavy black and then have them shade it in with purple, talk with your artist about the idea and see what he recommends.

what the heck is ECW. Personally, I think it's a pretty plain and _ _ _ _ _ _ design... can we be a bit more original, please?
