Suppose you had a heart condition and a Witch prepared a brew which she told you would help your heart. Suppose the brew contained digitalis and it truly would help your heart. Would you drink it?

Suppose the Witch said some words of her own over the brew, simply asking the spirits to help your condition improve, and your preacher told you not to drink it because it was the devil's work. Would you drink it?

to expand per what Babydoll wrote, would you have your child drink it if it was the only thing that would save your child's life? (right on Babydoll!)

I think Vicarious Cynic hit the nail right on the head! As for Rev. Tomcat, i do not believe that there is a difference between an herbal remedy and a witches brew...other then the love and intent that goes into the witches brew!

Personally, i think that the fear of the afterlife would provoke anyone to drink! And as for the add on to the question, the truth of the matter is, if you truely loved your child as most of us do, we would urge the child to sip the brew...I know i would be willing to try anything that worked!

Blessings To All!

Cut the wiccan crap - it's herbal tea and millions of christians drink it every day. You know nothing of what you're talking about because no responsible herbalist would give anyone digitalis, we use hawthorne instead. You are an embarassment to real Pagans.

JV is right - as both a witch AND a Certified master Herbalist, I will say in agreement that it IS the herbs that do the work. All the chanting over them does not alter the chemical properties of the plants.

You didnt say whether the "witch" was a bruja or curandera or a neopagan or just plain pagan?

What type of "witch"?

She may be praying to angels even if she perceives them as "good" spirits?

As for that hypothetical preacher?

Hello instead of ranting about anything pagan being the devil's work why isnt he arranging for you to receive the medicine you need or getting you sent to the nearest doctor?

The pastor should be persuading the witch its the chemicals in the herbs that are doing most of the healing work not spirits of any kind and asking her to consider doing a paramedic or herbal medicine course and becoming the village nurse/ medic if there's no doctor?

This is the silliest hypothetical I've seen for quite a while!

And as for some of the answers AAARGH!

Get something else from a doctor to help your heart. Witches are of Satan and I would definitely not touch it. Not to "save my life" either. Only God can truly save a life. Kind of like, if God wills you to live, you will. And vise versa. If I needed help for a condition that I felt doctors could not help me with then I'd pray to God for it, not consult a witch of some kind.

Yeah, the "witch's brew" might contain digitalis.
Also rat s**t, dead flies, menstrual blood
(which witches seem to revere?), ground-up
beetles and who knows what else.
I'm not a Christian, but I think I'd do like
a Christian in this case and just see
a doctor. Keep the brew though, not
that I don't appreciate the gesture...
Give me SCIENCE, not woo-woo magical
booga-booga.

If there were no doctors, I would not drink it because I have no faith in Witchs. What they give you may kill you before the heart attack does. There is a difference between a Witchcraft brew and herbal medicine. I would rather ask God to heal me. Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all else will be added unto you. Ask and you shall receive.

Yes, I would drink it. I'd give it to my child if she needed it.
"If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for conscience' sake, for the earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness."
"...For why is my liberty judged by another man's conscience"?
"But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food over which I give thanks?"

"Therefore, concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one."
"But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse."

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

No, and I wouldn't let my child drink it either. (I wouldn't need my preacher to tell me not to.) I would not sell my soul for bread either, or for the whole world.

I would not drink it. If I died from my heart condition I go straight to Heaven to be with Jesus. Or people at my mothers church and the church up the road will pray for my healing. I will say to the Father it is your will Father, I am in your hands.
