Why do some people rely on secondhand information concerning information about other faiths instead of going straight to the source and asking a person of THAT FAITH themselves?

Also, why do people, when they receive this secondhand information, use it against the faith, out of ignorance? Example....

1st person - "Oh, well I heard that you guys believe this! (yada yada yada)"

2nd person - "No, we don't believe that."

1st Person - ".......Yes you do."

I mean, it's laughable to me. Don't people realize that someone of a particular faith probably has just a teeny bit more knowledge concerning their OWN beliefs?

Not only that, carry your research a step farther and read the sacred scriptures of the religion in question and investigate the cultural context in which the sacred scriptures were placed. Especially don't take the word of folks not of that religion. That's the best way to get dis-/mis-information, bias, and propaganda. Always go to reliable sources for any knowledge, not to some detractor. Even if you don't agree with the religion in question, at least you will know firsthand what it teaches and stands for. For example, never ask a Christian about Islam. There is extreme prejudice from the get-go and the most outrageous out of context quoting and understanding I have ever seen.

This is how we see with our own eyes, hear with our own ears, and think with our own mind, not that of our neighbor. Independent investigation of reality with an unbiased and unprejudiced mind is the responsibility of every citizen of planet earth.

1. Some people are intellectually lazy. Doing one's own research is hard work.

2. Some people don't *want* to know the truth.

3. Some people are looking for a fight instead of for information. A good example: The Scribes & Pharisees when they questioned Jesus.

For myself: I have always been academically curious about how various people relate to Deity. When I decided to study Catholicism, I took a course in Catholicism from a Catholic organization. I found it very interesting. Now I can relate even better to my Catholic friends.

I made a 98 in the course -- but I *don't* consider myself qualified to tell anyone else what Catholics believe. Should someone ask me, I shall refer him to the Catholics.

Considering how little some Christians know about their faith, which they share with over a billion other people, I'm not surprised at those conversations. A person can really only testify to their own personal beliefs and should be very careful in saying, "No, WE don't believe that." It may well be that a majority of the believers in that faith do believe that.

i assume that relies upon on the guy's motives. in the event that they have organic motives and easily desire actual information, it would make experience to pass to an expert in that faith that they might have faith. to illustrate, i could take my automobile to get fixed at a mechanic's no longer a barber keep. in the event that they desire to get twisted, messed-up tips then they are going to easily ask all individuals or maybe worse, ask somebody it particularly is relatively against that faith. { FYI: As a JW I see undemanding/semi-undemanding questions approximately this website each and all of the time and undemanding/semi-undemanding/completely cheating solutions each and all of the time. frequently I see the completely cheating solutions and get a thumbs-down for my undemanding ones. } some human beings won't have get entry to accessible of their hometowns so as that they are going to pass to the internet and message boards, hoping for some respectable information. while you're a sort of people, please take despite you be taught with a "grain of salt"; do no longer have faith each and every little thing which you pay attention. ? desire this enables!! ?
