do lots of people really come on here asking questions about abortion, smacking or things like that?

And then just give this big tirade or argument about why it should always/never be done? My friend told me about this, and l saw some pretty weird questions too. l don't get it, is this just a place for people to vent extreme views, or is it supposed to be for asking real questions?

Yep, there's more than a few of those questions around. Some days l'll come on here and l can barely find two questions to answer! Don't get me wrong, l can appreciate a good debate as much as the next person, and it can be a good way of learning other points of view to an argument, but l can't stand it when people troll through questions just giving the same judgemental argument to everything, or even worse, ask for people's opinions when all they want is to hear that they're right! But this is supposed to be a question/answer forum, you're right there, l wouldn't worry about it too much, just ignore the rants that you come accross, and answer the genuine questions!

some people do do it, and it gets annoying, like some people that abortion is wrong and they go off, i think they do it to make people mad, not even to vent or anything, i read one question that said if you don't spank your kids then you are a "crap" parent, which i find to be horribly wrong, as well as others on this site. There are lots of real questions on here but every once in a while you get the idiots that wanna start things... I just ignore and go on to the next question.

It is supposed to be for asking real questions and simply getting answers, but a lot of people are full of their own self-importance and like to lecture people on where they are going wrong in life - even if the question is simply a question and does not actually relate to them personally. Then there are others who simply like posting rubbish questions for shock value or venting their views, as you say. Thankfully, there are also a lot of genuine people who like passing on their knowledge or who have genuine questions that they would like to know the answer to. You learn to ignore the idiots!

It is ment for questions. Some people come on here to vent but they are usually ignored. Some come on with opinions of their own and want to know others views. It's ok....ask what you want to and answer what you want to. if it is against the guidelines then they will be dealt with accordingly

Actually many come here in despirate need or an abortion or terrified as pregnant and only 15 etc, or asking for sex ed advice as not given in school

Good question and I appreciate your asking it. This should be a safe venue for Questions and answers where people can get facts and interesting information. There are plenty of places for extremists to spew garbage but they feel it is some how their "duty" to pollute this forum.

i know how you feel it is a great resource for us parent5s and some stupid people that are full of there own self importance feel the need to use it as there own shouting platform to spread fear and hatred. all we can do is try to get on with the reason we are really here and report anything upsetting or fearful.

Yet there are those who can make it fun and those who are just too darn obnoxious just to get a reaction.
