At this point in my life, I'd have to go with the dog. The last guy I dated wouldn't even stay sober enough to talk to me on the phone. I told him not to call me unless he was sober, and he still called drunk. I refused to talk to him, and now his drunk a*s finally stopped calling me. I would never have that problem with the dog.

be strong and find a human compaionship.
If you get hurt again, so what. Remember that most people have to kiss a lot of frogs before meeting that prince charming. It is true. And the more frogs you kiss, the better you know who is right for you. Think of it as life experiences. more experience you have, the better you will be giving people advices in the future. You can love a person like loving a dog. Be brave knowing that life is full of challenges.

Have both if you can afford. But if I have to choose, I'd choose companionship with another person anytime. I love dogs, but dogs are always dogs. Can't take you to dinner or movies or share jokes, ideas and visions with you, or make you morning breakfast...etc etc.

It may be hard ,if, you've been hurt in a relationship before, but don't give up on relationship just yet. There's still a lot of wonderful people out there! Just take it in your stride.

Good luck.

Interesting question. My son was in a similar situation and I asked him what he expected in a female companion. It turned out what he wanted was a "pet", not a human. If you expect your partner (male or female) to be obedient, faithful, forgiving your every fault, even when you treat them badly or shout at them, to be there when you get home and not talk when you don't want them to, or interupt you when you're in the middle of doing something...then get a dog. A human partner will offer you pleasures far beyond what any animal (even a dog) can bring to your relationship, but it comes at a price, and that price is compromise and understanding. Compromise and understanding in that you don't always get what you want, or get to do what you want, when you want, because they have an equal say in what "they" want, when "they" want to do it, and "when" they want to do it. It is an unending interplay of emotion and passion that yields some really ugly arguments, and some moments of bliss that border on the paranormal, but you have to take the good with the bad, the rose always comes with thorns. If you are mature enough to handle it, get a human partner, if you'd rather enjoy a lesser existence, but one without the stress, compromise and expense, then just get a dog.

The dog is man's best friend as they used to say. Yes there's nothing wrong if you have a loyal pet like a dog. You can have its loyalty as long as it lives and as long as you care for it. But, a dog cannot talk to you give advices or even comfort you at times when your down compared to a human friend. If you feel comfortable with a dog as companion, then it is well for you.

I would go with the dog. Take a break from relationships for a while and start again when you feel good and ready.

I am definitely a specieist and I can not condone relationships between different species, especially when it comes to 'sharing' in the same way we would share in a loving relationship with a human partner.
