No, they are both pretty much the same. The main difference between the two is that Home does don't have the ability to connect to a domain. Also, Home does not have a group policy editor where Pro does. There are a few other differences, but, other then that, both are basically the same. If you install a fresh load of each on to identical machines, the will run at the same speed.

XP Pro was for the longest time THE program MicroSoft worked the most on. So it has a lot more of the problems solved. AND it was purchased by more corporations. If you or I called about a problem - Big Deal. Hence why Home got only so good. But if IBM or GM calls about having a problem with XP Pro. Believe me. They will LISTEN and FIX IT! Why? M-O-N-E-Y!

There isn't really a whole lot of difference. With the same hardware, I'd say they'd run about the same speed. Don't get Pro if you don't need the features. if you only use your computer at home, then get the home edition. it's cheaper, and it will have everything you'll ever need.

It seems to be faster, it appears to be coded better (oddly enough), and it is more robust than Home.
Given the choice between the two, pick Professional or Media Center over Home, depending on your media needs.
Good luck!

Home is just Pro thrown against the wall. It has less features and can't be joined to a domain. There really shouldn't be any speed difference.

I don't think it will do anything with speeding up or slowing down unless you also upgrade your processor to a faster one and get more memory
