I wouldn't even notice to correct someone, but I think if you say, "I saw that movie," you are referring to a specific time in the past. But if you say, "I've seen that movie," you are referring to an unspecified time or you mean that you are currently still watching that movie.
I saw that movie yesterday.
I have seen that movie every day.

"I have seen" is correct
"I saw" is correct
They have slightly different meanings with regard to time frame because of the different tenses, but either would pass. Unless you are going to be a writer, I wouldn't worry. Both are acceptable.

I saw that movie seems the more correct way of saying it but if you add already to the first one it could work.

I f someone starts discussing the movie, you can say - I saw that movie.
If someone asks you out to see the movie, you can say, no thanks I've already seen that movie.
I saw that movie is most proper form most of the situations.
