I had a tattoo done 16 years ago and never had any issues with it. This week I had itchiness and when I went to scratch it, noticed that part of it is raised- really raised, like the height of a blister or something, but solid. It does not have any discharge and doesn't bother me otherwise. Should I be concerned? What could it be? It is on my chest, I don't sunbathe.

It doesn't seem likely that the tattoo is the cause after all these years, if you know anyone who does tattooing, you might check with them and if it's news to them, see a doctor.

The raised area is just the skins response to all that scratching. I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as the tattoo is concerned and that raised area should go away soon. I think it is a coincidence that you got that itch on the part of your body with the tattoo.

I have several, one of which was done with a mixture of caligraphy ink and baby oil, as opposed to actual skin ink, and sometimes it itches when it gets hot, but it really isn't anything serious.

Nurse Betty always says an apple a day will keep the dr away, well she was so wrong. Sounds like to me you have developed a keloid. You should go to your general practitioner or better yet a dermatologist ASAP.
