David Gilmore, to me is a great "soulful" blues guitarist. "Echoes" and "Comfortably Numb", the entire "Wish You Were Hear" cd, and "Animals" if full of blues. But Mr.Gilmore inspired me to pick up the guitar. He retains my honors.
Neil Young and Carlos Santana also. Please share some of your favorite "rock" blues players. or is it "Blues", Rock players?

I like the point made by Paul Hxyz, "we" should recognize our own style of playing, and if your a blues "rock" player, "throw your name in the hat"!

Oh man! Yeah! Here ya go:

Gary Moore
John Sykes
Rick Derringer
Dave Meniketti
Frank Marino
Yngwie Malmsteen (yes, he CAN play the blues..)
Slick Avelar (from Starship) who once played my guitar at a gig, handing it back to me after a song saying "Man..i don't know how you keep this thing in tune..." LOL!

Just my 2 cents:

Don't get me wrong - i love Steve Vai as much as any other rabid guitar shred fan, but Steve does NOT come to mind as a blues player..LOL

And this thing with Jack White....I just can't stand the dude. Why? 1. I wouldn't call him "proficient" in ANY style , let alone blues. 2. A guitarist / vocalist and his ex-wife on drums is NOT a band, just a weird combination of a duo...
