is it possible to keep 2 male cats ? as I already have a cat and the last 2 days a friendly stray has decided to make home out the front of our house. And I dont want to send him to the pound. because he is such a lovely cat and ive asked my neigbours if he belongs to any of them but no he doesnt. And no one has seen him around before. He's actaully taken a liking to me and my partner , but my other cat seems very jealous. Is it possible that I could keep them both? And would they eventually get along together?

Yes! I have two male cats and a female cat and they all get a long great. Your other cat is obviously going to be jealous at first because another cat is in his territory. But after a while they will get use to each other, just take it slow and don't force them to be around each other. Also, make sure they are both neutered so they won't spray.
It took about a month or so for my two cats to get use to our newest addition but now they all love to play together. My male cats are actually really close to each other now. They will lick each other and cuddle together.
Here are a few sites to help.

It might take awhile, but they could end up being best buds. If your original cat seems jealous try giving him some extra love & attention so he doesn't feel like he's being 'replaced' in any way by the new guy. If they're not already neutered, this needs to be done ASAP. Just be patient & loving. We currently live with 3 male & 1 female cat & have done a *lot* of introductions over the years. It has taken anywhere from 1 day (rare!) to about 3 months (also unusual) for the newcomer to be accepted, but it usually takes less than 2 weeks. Good luck, and bless you for wanting to give the stray charmer a home!

Yes, they will be fine together, but it will take about 2 weeks or more for an adjustment period. They have to define the territory rules. But make sure both are fixed for you will have problems.

I would also put a notice up at the nearest market or there abouts. A new family could have moved in and their cat got out and got lost. Also, if and when you take the new cat to a vet, have him check for a microchip in case he is lost.

Yes, I've had two male cats for 4 years now. The older one is just trying to protect its territory, but it will eventually become friends with the new cat. It just takes a little time. Be sure to treat them equally.

We have two males cats (one 12 and one 2 yrs old) and a 1 yr old female. No problems. But it WILL take time. Let them work out the pecking order.

Yes i have 4 male cats and they all get along fine. Just make sure they're neutered because if they aren't they tend to get territorial and will spray everywhere throughout your house. Inside and out.

My two male cats don't get along well. One of them is fixed, so maybe his ambiguous sexuality makes the other "unfixed" one grouchy. Anyway, since we live in the country they both have plenty of room to roam their separate ways outside. I just don't let them inside, so they don't get too close unless it's time to eat, and then they don't seem to care much.
