yes, speed kills

Restrictor plate tracks are going to kill somebody, it's only a matter of time. NASCAR has got to break up those packs of cars. Taking the plates off is not the answer, as Bobby Allison showed over 20 years ago.

I hate to say it, but the only way to spread those cars out is to take a bulldozer to one end of the super speedways and flatten out the banking. Make the drivers have to step on the brakes and slow down. That'll spread the cars out, and also put more factors other than drafting luck into winning a plate race.

Nope, wait I thought you asked if I would be in a fatal NASCAR wreck, sorry. Yes, unfortunately I think there will be one in the future but hopefully not!

i'd like to think that with the COT, the HANS, the SAFER Barrier and all this new stuff NASCAR is getting that no we won't have a injury or worse on track but the fact of the matter is even if they drive 65 mph something is going to go wrong somewhere and its a sad reality that you can only hope doesn't happen

and to the person who made the negative comment about restrictor plates, do you know why they exist?

in 1987 restrictor plates did not exist and cars broke 210+ mph at Talladega and Daytona. in practice for Talladega Bobby Allison blew a tire coming into the trioval, and this is the result..thankfully nobody was killed

I do think there will be. With all the advances in the safety it is a safer sport than it used to be. Having said that I think the COT is going to be the reason someone gets hurt. One of the reasons for the COT was to decrease the cost of racing, you don't need different cars for different tracks. Several teams have used the same car for all the COT races. Having been a fabricator/welder for a lot of years I understand about metal fatigue. It is just a matter of time before one of these cars comes apart and kills someone. I hope I am wrong. I would not want to see anyone get hurt.

If the COT holds up to it's standards, hopefully not. But the COT isn't ran in the Busch Series, so I think Busch would have a higher chance of a fatal accident than Cup.
I really don't want to discuss this, because if something happened to any driver, especially a top driver or my favorite driver, I'm not so sure I could ever watch another race again.

Yes.

Its not a matter of who or what, its when, and if the guard goes down.

As long as something freak doesnt happen, and safety is paramount above all, you can avoid deaths pretty well, but not totally prevent them.

But its racing, every once in a great while, something freak happens, and sometimes, sadly, it could mean a drivers life is taken.

Just like anything in life it unfortunately will happen. Just like someone will be killed while shopping, or walking, or sitting at home at the wrong time. We all have a time limit and it will happen. Racing is no different than any other activity in causing death.

Yea, NASCAR is making it safer to race ever since the untimely death of Dale Earnheart. They added SAFER barriers and with the COT car it has become much safer, but people will still die racing, thats just how it is.
