If you are living in sin, according to God, you are already dead.

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."

Ephesians 2:1-5

He is not powerless, it is just dead people cannot ask forgiveness. And the time is over. We have time here to figure things out.

Because "the dead knows nothing". If your death bed or something you repent then he'll forgive you, or something like that, but once your dead. That's it. He's not powerless. He can resurrect you if he wants, but when you die, its your state of mind right before you die that he's looking for. When your alive you can turn from an alcoholic to a Godly person, but when your dead, you can't do that.

The powerless comes from lack of faith. Just as Jesus could not perform any miracles in His own hometown for their lack of faith. They would say is He not the carpenters son and not the Messiah.

Faith is broken once a person is dead and standing before God and waiting for judgment. God set the rules in place for all to follow. God does not go back on His word.

Hi Sarah,
It isn't that He's powerless...He is actually omnipotent, or all powerful.
The point is that there are consequences to our actions.
the bible clearly states in 2Peter 3, that it is His will that NONE should perish. Fact is though, that we are given freedom. We, as a culture today have come to think that freedom is free....it's not. Yes, we can make ANY CHOICE we want, but we have to face up to what that choice will ultimately cost.
Hebrews 9:27 states that man is appointed once to die, and then be judged.
We have our lifetime to make a decision, when it's over, it's over and it's time to face up to the decisions you made..or didn't make for that matter. Contact me if you'd like if you need more help.
God Bless

God is not powerless at all. He is absolute. He can raise you from the dead and forgive you if he chooses. Why does he need to wait to forgive after death, when you can seek him while you are alive.

Powerless?

Think of your life as a 70 year court trial. Once the judge passes sentence, can you ask for the courts forgiveness while you are in your jail cell? No, your sentenced is to be carried out, the court has been adjourned, go directly to jail do not collect $200....

God is not powerless to forgive. However, it depends upon your freewill. If the person did not make better choice when alive so it is impossible after the death. Even if you rewrite the paper after exams are over, you still will write the same. God is ever forgiving.

Because you are dead? You chose to not ask for forgiveness and repent while you were on Earth. I don't think there is a right answer really to that question because God only knows.

God is Omnipotent (all-powerful). But God does not play games with us. He gave us one lifetime to choose His provision for us and clearly gave warnings and hope in His Word. Why would He forgive the dead when you refused Him while you were alive? This wouldn't make sense.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 If you're dead and you see that Christianity is true, where's the faith in that? It's what you can't see that you can have faith in. Ephesians 2:8 By grace are ye saved through FAITH
