Soak your feet to keep the toenail soft then let it air dry. Keep it clean. Keep a careful watch on it. Any redness or swelling that progresses up the foot is a major red flag. Should this happen go to a doctor immediately! The typical toenail takes anywhere from 12 to 18 months to grow back, much slower than fingernails. And yes, it will feel funny for a while. You are used to that toenail protecting your toe from the top leather of your shoes. You may want to go to the drug store and get a toe sock. It is a rolled gauze tube you can wear on the toe to keep it from being irritated by the shoes you wear. Take it off when you take your shoes off.

I dropped a glass dish from the microwave oven onto my toe almost a year ago. It was black and gross looking for nearly a year. It really takes a long time for the body to grow a new toe nail, close to an entire year. I'm not making this up because even a doctor will tell you this. Toe nails don't grow quick at all!! The new nail should eventually come in and just push the old one right off, which also sounds gross looking. But, this just happened to me yesterday morning while i was putting my shoes on. The old damaged dead nail was about to just pull right off and was bleeding underneath. Needless to say, i didn't know what to do with it so i went to a doctor who cut the dead part off. The doctor knew how to freeze the toe so it wouldn't hurt too much doing that.

If you lost the whole toenail it could take a few months before it is completely back in depending on which toe it is. I lost both of the nails on my big toes and it took a while but they eventually did come back without me doing anything special. When it does come back it will probably seem real thin and bumpy at first, but that too will get better. Guarantee by next year you will have "forgotten" all about it.
It could get infected if it is an open wound but I wouldn't worry about it unless it does. If it is an open wound you can put neosporin on it till it is closed up.

i think i can help. a few months ago, i kicked my dresser (on accident) and ripped off my entire nail and half of the nail bed. it hurt like i had broken it, and bled until the next night. keep an eye on your nail, and if it turns bright red, warm, an it hurts, it's infected. my nail probably took a month or two to completely grow back, but then again, my nail bed had to grow back too. if you didnt rip off any of the nail bed, then it should be fine in a week or two. hope this helps!

Oh my God. Call the priest for "last rights"......NOT. A watched pot never boils. It will probably hurt a little bit for a while. After all, there used to be a nail there, and you took it off. I know it happened to me a couple of times, and the nail always grew back. You will know if it's infected. Otherwise, just have patience while it grows back.
My bill is in the mail.

wow. so random.
I have the same problem, busted and bruised for 4 weeks now. I'm waiting for the nail to crumble off.
I hope it won't feel that weird when Its gone. I have no idea how long it will take for it to grow back.
I just hope ours grow back looking normal. cause I have hot lookin feet and I don't want a "little toe" nail messin up my good lookin feet.

Ummm if it looks gross put a bandaid on it meanwhile if you want it to grow back faster try buying some hardening nail polish at the store and take some vitamin K to help your hair and nails grow faster.

It can take a couple of months for it to grow back. The more healthy food you eat and take your vitamins, the faster your toenails will grow.

Broken toenail is hardly a life threatening disease. Forget about it, in a few weeks you won't even remember about it.
